Is this your opinion or do you have a link to an article that states this?

It's opinion, Brunell was third in the voting.

I don't agree with Steve Smith being on the list, since he wasn't actually underperforming. He was injured for most of last year. And while Bruschi's situation is a nice story, he only came back in the middle of the season, and it's not as if his numbers have been insane.

The comeback player of the year usually goes to a player that had a great year, but underperformed the year before, to the point where everyone thinks they're done. That's exactly the boat Brunell is in right now. He definitely should've gotten it.

My thoughts exactly. While Smith & Bruschi each have nice stories, no one was saying that they were finished. That trading for them was the biggest mistake in Coach Gibbs carreer. He went from that to throwing more TD's in his carreer. Now that's a COMEBACK

I think Bruschi is well deserving of that award.

We'll see him in the Super Bowl.

I can't believe anyone even tied with Bruschi, I thought he would run away with it. The media just ate up his story. I guess I can't argue with it.

Considering the two guys that beat him overcame a stroke (to play well)and a badly fractured leg (to play at an MVP caliber level), I'm not terribly disappointed.

Re: Brunnel not considered as comeback player of the year

It's not unusual for a player to win who battles back from injury. Bryant Young in '99, Garrison Hearst in '01, Marino in '94, for example.

In Smith's case he came back from a broken leg and had a career year, it's hard to hate on that.

We all know Bruschi's story and again it's tough to hate on him. Coming back from a stroke has never been done before.

Its hard to disagree with the choice but after how bad Brunell looked last year he would have received my vote. Just think how everyone and I mean everyone except Gibbs had Brunell in a retirement home and now he has the Skins in the playoffs.

Re: Brunnel not considered as comeback player of the year

Steve Smith was a Pro Bowler before his injury. It was a ****ing broken leg, not a torn MCL/ACL. Not exactly the hardest injury to rehab from. Mark Brunell was almost booed out of town. He won it for me just for restructuring his deal and coming back to face the music, forget that he set a personal high for touchdown passes and led a team that no one gave a shot in hell to the playoffs. I hate the goddamn media.

Re: Brunnel not considered as comeback player of the year

There are plently of people, even some in the media, who are very impressed with Brunnel actually still being in the league much less performing at the level he has performed up to this point, but Bruschi's situation this past year is an extremely rare case. The man had a stroke. he didn't have a bad year where he looked absolutely pathetic, but instead he came back from something that kills thousands of people a year. and to anyone saying no one thought he was done obviously didn't pay attention to the coverage of his situation because there were a lot of people who thought, some even hoped, he'd quit so as not to further the extent of his injury. He might not have had a huge statistical year, but the improvement in his teammates play after his return is impossible to dispute (the pats d held teams in a 4 game span to a total of 100 some rushing yards). while I love it when any skins player has a chance to win a worthy award, Bruschi deserves it over Brunnel hands down in my book.
Smith did overcome a serious injury but it wasn't anything career threatening and I know I wasn't even considering him for the award despite his incredible year. People in the media have been sucking up to Smith since midway through the season. I thought it was funny as crap when fox had a special about smith with howie long and in the game that day he got ejected for touching and yelling at a referee, lol.

Re: Brunnel not considered as comeback player of the year

THE Comeback Player of the Year for next year (2006) has to be Maurice Clarett because he will have to come back to court to face the charges against him or else he'll forfeit his bail and have bounty hunters after his sorry ass.

Re: Brunnel not considered as comeback player of the year

So it wasn't the Brunell wasn't considered as comeback player of the year, it's just that he wasn't picked. Just knowing that he was considered is a positive thing.
