ESPN power rankings...Skins @ #18

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking

I don't agree with it, but with our track record, I can understand how they can have the Skins at #18....Gibbs alone probably brought us out of the bottom 10. But Atlanta at #7? WTF??? Yeah, Vick is good, but come on! They have a rookie head coach, and contrary to what many believe, one man can't make that much of a difference.
Let me put it another way, with the same team (hypothetically), who would you rather have...Gibbs as HC or Vick as QB? I'd choose Gibbs, no question.

(not that these rankings really mean anything, but it's a very slow NFL news time of year...)

atlanta is gonna be a lot better this year especially with their additions in the draft and offseason including signing alex gibbs i think his name is. he was the offensive line coach for denver and will help provide a solid line of protection for vick this year and him being in the west coast offense is gonna help him immensely.
as relates to us being #18, i think it has more to do with them being skeptical with all of our other "great" offseasons of recent memory resulting in nothing but unrest in redskins faithful. they had a link up for fans to rank the teams in what orders they believe they should be and after doing so(i had the skins at 6 or 7), i guess it averages it out with other votes cuz it had the skins at 14.

Hey i think we got a justifible rank. As the past few years could attest too, free agent spending does't make you better. So there's no reason to think where gonna be incredible. The only x factor of course is Gibbs. We'll have to see. I'm still critical of our d-line. I think thats really gonona hinder or defense.

No worries Mate!

No worries Mate! That just means teams will look past us before they play us! It can only work in our favor.

plus didn't we end last season ranked like 26 or something like that so an 8 spot jump just on gibbs alone seems about right but we all know we'll be in the top 10 by the end of the season. it's all about how u finish, not how u start.

Skins009,

I echo your sentiments about the D-line. It will be our shortcoming all season which is why I thought we should trade down in the draft and get an extra pick and a D lineman, although with Gibbs running the draft and his track record who really could argue with Taylor.

they are saying that vick is gonna play more "quarterback" this year and less runningback. i think that hurts atlanta more. i despise vick, but if he can run as much as he passes they are a better team. the west coast may help with shorter passes, but that doesnt really give him time to use his legs IMO

Let's look at Atlanta's offense.

QB: Vick (Best in the game)
TE: Alge Crumpler (Top 5 in the game for sure)
RB: TJ Duckett and Warrick Dunn, quite a punishing duo.
WRs: Peerless Price, Dez White, Michael Jenkins, Brian Finnerin.
Although this isn't the greatest group, Peerless Price can definitly play when he's not doubles all day long. Hopefully Dez White will finally fulfill his potential and Michael Jenkins could be a serious threat.

Their biggest question mark is their defense. Which they did try to correct with a slew of new DB's. I think 7 is high for them, but they do have a high octane offense in a fairly weak division. Don't be suprised if they do well.

based on talent alone how can you not? if he's even a little bit more refined as a qb he would be one of, if not, the best qbs in the game and he's only entering his 4th season in the nfl. have any of u bashing vick actually seen the arm on this guy? he has a cannon for an arm and along with that strength he's pretty accurate with his long throws. i've seen him throw 50 yard passes on the spot as if it were nothing. so if he can tune up his short passing game and ability to read a defense, he will be far above any other single player in football cuz not only can he completely change the game with a bomb of a throw, he can juke and fly his way down the field for a touchdown on the ground too. anyone who'd complain about vick being their qb if the chance arose, is more than likely just hating on him cuz of the press he's gotten. i'd take him as a skin in a milisecond cuz he's already in the top 10-15 qbs in the league and hasn't even gotten close to his full potential.

OK, you must be all into his hype. His last three years (only 3 years) completion % goes as follows:
01- 44.2%
02- 54.9%
03- 50.0%
car- 52.2% (has 634 career attempts)
How in the world can you possibly say he's accurate? In fact, I'd go so far to say that he sucks inside the pocket. He has shown me nothing more than a glorified Kordell Stewart to this point. Don't make yourself believe because he's the fastest QB ever he's a great QB. That's not the case.
He is way below average in terms of comp.%.
I saw someone say how WONDERFUL he was vs the Packers in 02. Not true. He was 13 for 25 (only 52%) for only 117 yards. His defense (one of the best in the league that year) is what won that game...Vicks running ability certainly helped, but his passing ability was more of a liability than an assett.
Don't get me wrong, I like Vick. If he can get a hold of a real good QB coach, he might be soemthing special, if not, he will never be anything extra special back there other than his scrambling ability.

if u'd actually read what i had written, u would have seen that i said that he's pretty accurate with his long throws, but needs work on his short range passing skills and his ability to read a defense. i've seen vick hit targets 40-50 yards or more downfield right where only the wr can catch it, but then come back and overthrow a 10 yard slant. i've seen vick progress from his first starting game at tech to the player he is now and with a bit more coaching he's gonna be a very dangerous player once he completes his passing game. which is scary since at any time in a game right now he has the chance to make a big play in more than one way. plus up til now, he's only thrown 14 ints in 28 games, so he may be a bit off on connecting with his recievers sometimes but it's not like he's turning the ball over on every incompletetion either.
