And....Mike Shanahan is not going anywhere.

Why would Montgomery and Chester be gone? That's not likely.. Monty is coming off a pro bowl type season. There is no way they would let him go.

The problem with that, of course, is that the Skins don't have a first round draft pick until 2015.

Re: Adam Schefter this morning on Sports Fix

As for the 1st RND draft pick and the sustainablity of a franchise...here are the Skins 1st RND draft picks from 82 to 92. Also remember there was very limited FA during this time, so 1st RND picks were, if anything, more valuable.

1982 No first-round draft pick
1983 28 Darrell Green CB Texas A&I
1984 No first-round draft pick
1985 No first-round draft pick
1986 No first-round draft pick
1987 No first-round draft pick
1988 No first-round draft pick
1989 No first-round draft pick
1990 No first-round draft pick
1991 17 Bobby Wilson DT Michigan State
1992 4 Desmond Howard WR Michigan

If you look at the above with the way Allen and Shanny have drafted in terms of both adding picks during the draft and getting guys that can contribute - I think we will be fine without the two 1st rounders we gave up

Wow. That's surprising.
There was that whole Plan B free agency thing that Beatherd and the Skins excelled at though; it was a way to build depth and character, and with Gibbs at the helm that was all the team really needed.

And what did having a high first round picks get them all these years? Oakpo, Kerrigan, Rogers, Landry, Williams, etc. are all nice players, but they were still crap with them. We have the most important piece in RG3 and just need to hit on our other draft picks moving forward.

If we weren't down to our 3rd and 4th string safeties, we'd probably be 5-3 THIS YEAR even with everything else (cap hit, injuries to Garçon, Orakpo, Davis, etc.).

We could have done better this year with Leribeus not doing squat, although Morris was a steal in the 6th. They'll be players in free agency this off season with or without the $18mil. The future is bright!

Yes. What's harder, finding a franchise superstar QB or finding the pieces that will make the defense improve.

We've done the hardest part, the rest can be addressed.
