Desean Jackson

Height is not everything.
DeSean Jackson caught six passes for 178 yards, including a 60-yard TD in the third quarter. He also returned a punt 72 yards for a score in the second quarter.
Jackson, who finished with 261 all-purpose yards, now has eight TDs of 50 yards or more this season, tying an all time NFL record shared by only Elroy Hirsch and Devin Hester. This is a pretty rare record being tied. With three games left he has a good chance to break the record.
For a guy that was too short for the redskins to draft, he has turned out pretty good...for a short guy.

Desean is a playmaking monster and I'd love to have him on our team. However, I understand why we went with Thomas, Kelly and Davis. We had very small wideouts and needed a reliable, big target for Campbell.

Thank you. Hopefully this won't turn into another thread where some simpleton starts calling for someone's head because we didn't draft Jackson.

I wouldnt call for Vinny head just for that but for a gross mismangement of the draft in his tenure. Like I stated above. I just like to see a culture change of team building through the draft, not giving away picks, and yes more effective player picks (Jackson here). Carlos and Laron top ten pick? JC a first round pick...Ramsey a pick at all? Just instead of trying to build team through over paying free agents...try to build a team from the ground up, probably more cost effective, a stronger sense of team with guys coming in together, and greater depth at positions. One guy for sure who was a great pick, Orakpo, ole pat on the back Vinny for that one.

Orakpo was a good pick, but it wasn't necessarily a brilliant move that nobody saw coming. Chris Horton might have been one of those very rare, brilliant moves by Vinny.

1st round picks are a funny thing -- if they turn out to be great, you say, well of course, they were taken in the first round, they're supposed to be great. So in that sense, the general manager can't really take much credit for it. But if you miss on a 1st rounder, the general manager gets the blame for selecting a first round bust.

Ask Charley Casserly about 1st round busts -- he took six in a row from 1991-1996.

I remember Casserly saying that if you asked any GM at the time what they thought of Desmond Howard in 1992 they would've all taken him in the top 10.

Good point about 1st round picks. GMs have to get credit for not only selecting a good player but also a good fit for their team.

The draft by nature is hit or miss. That's why we should be careful wanting to trade warriors for question marks. Nothing is guaranteed in the draft. Look at the Giants, their GM did not address linebacker. He picked another wide recieiver Hakeem Nicks in the 1st round when he already had good young WRs. Manningham, Smith, Hixon, etc. If that was Vinny we would be up in arms. It's like an album, you don't look at one track, you look at the body of work. Im giving Vinny a little credit, he has been making mostly consensus picks. Landry and Rogers those are not maverick picks. So-called conventional wisdom

Re: Desean Jackson

He also had some character issues that scared some teams off.

Look, he's a great player no doubt, but it's looking more and more like Thomas, Davis, and Kelly are going to be key players for us in the future. I'm really done with crying over who we didn't take. There are plenty of other teams who now in hindsight wish they would have taken Jackson.

Re: Desean Jackson

Along as he can avoid injury, he is going to be very good for a very long time, top 3 offensive threat on the field right now. I saw last week people protecting Vinny picks saying he does a decent job...in the last 10 years we have had less draft picks than everybody else cause we give them away and we constantly b*tch this year about Carlos and Laron two first rounders by Vinny, and we dont draft any O lineman and that is our biggest issue area on the team the last 3 years...I just dont get it...People say you draft the best player availible...they dont say draft the tallest player availible...for a team that desperately needed a WR and also a playmaker in general, this was another fail by Vinny. I think DT can be good, but not the big play guy Desean already is

Yea, lot's of teams passed on Jackson. His punt return for a TD last night was amazing though. Unbelievable.

I'm liking Davis and Thomas/Kelly.

Who was the last player the Skins have drafted that was an explosive/highlight reel player? I can't remember....Cooley's great, but not necessarily explosive. Gary Clark played in the Canadian league first right? Damn...still thinking.

Clark came over from the USFL along with Ricky Sanders.

Re: Desean Jackson

Where are the threads about some of the other WRs a bunch of us were clamoring for back in 2008-James Hardy, Limas Sweed, Dexter Jackson-just to name a few?

Jordy Nelson...

It appears to not have been a sound strategy to grab multiple receivers high in that draft, but it looks like we at least pulled the status quo if you were grabbing them out of the hat. That's an improvement.

This guy is soo small. He is listed at 5 10, 175. He is gonna get seriously injured if he doesnt beef up.
