JG or GM?
Would you give up Gibbs to have a proven GM and not so proven Head Coach?

Re: JG or GM?
No. Gibbs brings so much more to the table than a knowledge of talent.

Re: JG or GM?
No way. Gotta stick with Gibbs...he knows talent. Besides Brunell, his track record so far is pretty damn good! So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if I don't agree with something they do.
Also, people always talk about "needing a GM", but sorry, these guys don't grow on trees and it is just as hard to find good ones as it is with head coaches....usually, the good, proven ones are taken. |

Re: JG or GM?
I don't buy into the "we need a GM" theory. For one thing I don't even know what people mean by that. I think some would just be happy to have someone with that official title.
However, it's constantly brought up here that we need a GM, and like I said in another thread I don't think Gibbs would be here if he wasn't the final decision maker on football decisions (somewhere in the distance, a curmudgeon speaks of Snyder-Coles-and big screen TVs). So I was just curious if anyone would say they'd give Gibbs up for say Terry Robiskie and Charley Casserly

Re: JG or GM?
Not a chance you give up on Gibbs. Now if he wanted to bring in a GM, I wouldn't be opposed to that, but hell, I dont even care if he has 5 losing seasons here before he hangs it up.... He came back and put his heart into our team and thats all we can ask as fans from anyone. And if anyone's heart is in the right place when it comes to our team... its Joe Gibbs. I think we're in good hands.

Re: JG or GM?
I guess I'm the lone dissenter, I worshipped the ground Gibbs walked on but I think he might be in over his head trying to do coaching and other duties. He most certainly can't keep track of what's going on with the cap and I believe that we need a true GM. That idiot Cerrato should go back to working NFL game day on ESPN. Gibbs most success came when he had 2 great GM's Bethard and Casserly and this should be the structure we have now. As a 6-10 team we do not have the luxury of a QB project that might pan out in the future. We had other pressing needs.

Re: JG or GM?
I completly agree with you. Look at all the coaches who tried to be GM and a coach. They failed miserably. gibbs should concentrate on one thing whether it be coaching or GM. Seeing his draft his year especially Campbells selection makes me worry about him as a GM though. Look at Holmgreen, Shannahan and Marty who all tried to be GM n coach but did not succeed as much as they did when they were just coaching.
I have a scenario for u. What if Gibbs becomes a Gm and Greg Williams becomes a head coach. I could see that happening down the road. don't know whether it would be a great thing or not.. Quote:

Re: JG or GM?
this has not been a bad offseason. we lost pierce and smoot , who cares, they were good players but every team loses good players. the skins have signed and drafted better players than were lost this offseason. the worst thing about this offseason is taylor and moss not being at the voluntary workouts and that is not gibbs fault. gibbs has been nothing but great for the skins . last years draft was good and so was this years.

Re: JG or GM?
I think this question is really setting up a straw man. Why couldn't the Redskins have Gibbs and a quality GM? Casserly was here at the end of Gibbs' last run and obviously Bobby Bethard was GM before him. Dan Snyder's unwillingness to reliquish the reins of control to anyone - except maybe Gibbs - seems to me to constitute the fundamental problem.
