Special Teams

The more I think about the upcomming season what I get the most interested to see is how much our special teams improve.

Here is my prediction: they will be what pushes us from 10 wins to 12.

I think we will win 10 due to continuity, Gibbs being comfortable, and the offense getting a little bit better.

What gets us to 12 wins is field position, returns or blocks.

Heck I will call it now- Special teams gets us the division.

Wow that's really optimistic. I hope you're right!

But I'll be happy with a 10-win season. I do think the special teams will look much better. Antonio Brown adds a lot of speed in the return game. And on coverage, against the Panthers there was a punt where the Carolina return man took it left towards the sidelines, and it looked like he was going for a big gain up the sideline. But Prieleau ran him down from behind, seemingly out of nowhere. That impressed me, our coverage teams should look better. But I'm really excited for the big-play threat Antonio Brown brings.

Me too. I agree about our coverage team. The good thing about preseason is that you really get to see who wants to play when you watch special teams. Our coverage units looked pretty good last week.

Re: Special Teams

I would like to see the Skins elevate its special games to the level of VT. I don't follow alot of college ball but when I do, its Virginia Tech I watch. It seems in about half their games the special teams make a play that turns the momentum into VT's favor. I know its hard to compare college to professional ball but special teams can have a huge impact on the outcome of any given game. Teams fear Tech's special team and it would be a hugh plus if teams would start to fear our special teams. When a team fears you they start to make those little mistakes like false starts, hurried punts, etc...

Re: Special Teams

I'd like to see better returns on special teams.......our starting field position in the Carolina game was horrible, (we had one good return late in the game) albeit a preseason game.........but our coverage looked decent.

10 wins is a pipe dream for this team......nobody wants it more than me but I just can't see us winning 10 games this year. I see 8 as the best we can do unfortunately.

Re: Special Teams

well hell when half of the roster is LBs and DBs the STs better be OK

Antonio didn't break anything last week, hopefully tonight. I will be hoping. On coverage we have thrash who in my opinion is one of the best STers in the league. Gibbs stresses STs and if we did better in special teams last year in the baltimore game maybe we would have gone 7-9.
