Let's talk Brandon Scherff

Good read to kick this off with...

Profile of Iowa's Brandon Scherff, NFL draft's top offensive lineman | The MMQB with Peter King

He's incredibly athletic, the footwork issues are coachable. The athleticism isn't. He immediately improves our RT pass protection on athleticism alone, with the potential to develop to pro bowl level with coaching.

More importantly, him and Trent will make teams feel it when they play us. Hit, hit, and hit again. We need more of it.

we are going commit to running the ball again big time...I really wonder how Jay feels about that?

Probably great because our quarterbacks suck.

While I think there is little doubt we got the best Offensive Lineman in the draft, this looks more like a need pick than a best available pick (I thought best available would be the strategy). One could argue that it was a bit of a reach, but I'm not mad about it. Maybe they had him graded higher than Williams, White, Beasley...

Should be a solid contributor for a long time barring injury.

Albert Breer tweeted he was 3rd on the skins board after fowler and cooper, so they technically got good value.

They did, Scot McC's draftboard:

1. Fowler
2. Cooper
3. Schreff

Then they got their man. Can't be upset about that.

Williams would have been a great pick, but we needed Scherff more. I like the word "Nasty" and don't have a problem with the pick. I want to see the second coming of Russ Grimm or Tre Johnson (minus injuries)

Re: Let's talk Brandon Scherff

I'd like to ask all these pundits complaining that Scherff went to early: if a team was not willing to trade down with the Redskins, how was the team supposed to get him later in the draft? Scherff would have gone four picks later to the Giants.

Re: Let's talk Brandon Scherff

If you think this is a reach then you weren't paying attention to the salaries that very mediocre RTs commanded in free agency this year.

I love this pick. Very consistent player, and most importantly a nasty tone setter that I've been calling for.

Laken Tomlinson at the top of the 2nd would be terrific.

Tomlinson went to Detroit at No. 28.

Re: Let's talk Brandon Scherff

Gruden wanted to shift to more power running last year but we simply didn't have the horses, and playing from behind constantly and with a shitty D doesn't help. And with Callahan coming here it's obvious the direction we're moving.
