Hunter Smith On Difference Between Redskins And Colts

Hunter Smith On Difference Between Redskins And Colts « CBS Washington

Hunter Smith on the Lavar and Dukes show yesterday. Great interview and gives you a good idea on what the locker room has been like the past few years.

Before you start in on a "he's bitter idiot that couldn't punt" posts, Hunter has said his time ended here because he didn't perform on the field and he's not trashing the team.

Re: Hunter Smith On Difference Between Redskins And Colts

Good stuff, though I wish he had spoken more about the difference between what he saw under Cerrato/Zorn to Allen/Shanahan

Interesting that he credited ownership and management for recognizing talent to win the Super Bowl (according to Hunter)..it's what Vinny said all along!

But he's right that it's more than just talent, without any chemistry talent doesn't matter.

I do sense that the culture is changing though from the dark years of Vinny and Jimmy.

This isn't really even knew though, even back in the 80s there were similar observations, according to some former players I've talked to.

LaVar Arrington is like thermite is to combustion. Since he left here as a player he has taken every conceivable opportunity to jab the organization, or echo anyone he can coerce into doing likewise. It's plain to feel his energy radiate throughout the interview.

Smith appears to be a stand up guy that did his best with pointed questions. Not much room for fault in his evaluation based on the short time he was here. Me-guys and we-guys in comparison, there's probably room for a little more detail on that one.

Arrington and everyone else that have left here always say the same thing. I still find it hard to believe that some fans think they are bitter, or giving a line of shit because they got dumped or traded. Its the same thing going back to Mitchell, Bailey, Davis... This organization has been run like a clueless bunch of clowns. Trashes its core players, overpays for big names, and alienates its current roster. People come here to get paid, basically that is it. And it appears we are going to do the same thing this year when the CBA is signed.

So basically, you think it is SOS in Skinsville? Nothing has changed with the advent of the MS/BA regime? This year we will jump at the chance to stockpile a few.....NO-playin' Alberts at 40m per?

Skinsville is what it is, and it has been for the better part of 10-12 years. Every year, every new coach "things are going to be different, we going to do it the right way...blah blah" Honestly, has anything changed regardless of who the coach is?? No, its been the same no matter who was there. Except for Marty. He didn't do what was the norm and got fired after 1 year. Even Joe was sucked into the madness when he was there. SPending money, throwing away picks.

Now, this offseason the only difference is going to be we actually drafted 12 players. We are going to go out and spend money, like always. I guess the only thing that is of any consulation is it wont be Vinny saying we need this guy or that guy. Hopefully Bruce will have some pull into getting the RIGHT players and not all on Shanny. Shanny doesnt have the greatest reputation of building a team. When he took over the GM position in Denver, they steadily went down hill.

Its not all doom and gloom, but every year its the same BS. And every year I get blasted for being realistic. We can't talk or expect anything different from this team until it is consistantly winning, consistantly doing things the right way. 1 year of actually utilizing the draft doesn't mean that is the norm. 11 years of shitting on the draft and wasting money, that is the norm. I look for this year to be a rebuilding year. (Which I am actually excited about) probably not a 500 team, probably one of the worst actually. What needs to happen though is give Bruce and Shanahan 4 years to get the ship righted. WE can't throw him to the curb and bruce to the curb after two years. Just like evey other coach, except Joe.

Are YOU not the person painting the team with the heavy handed brush of doom and gloom?
"More of the same when the CBA is signed"?
Honestly, if I believed what you are suggesting, I would.....find something ELSE enjoyable to do.........

Then why is it that the Redskins haven't had any kind of success in the last 10-15 years? some of what he is saying must be true

Classless b*...oh wait.

Hmmm, Mr Tryon went from the Redskins TO the Colts.
Mr Smith went from the Colts to the Redskins.
BOTH noted the difference in how they approach their job.

Folks, this may not be a true peer review, but it's two independent mouths talking here. Maybe that culture thing Willie Parker was talking about wasn't so ridiculous after all.

Hunter also talked about how the Colts were a total mess in the transition from Mora to Dungy. It's all about stability. Hopefully we have that now

Re: Hunter Smith On Difference Between Redskins And Colts

Usually it's pretty easy to discount a former player interviews as vindictive rambles, not this one. I thought Hunter came off sincerer and spot on.

Re: Hunter Smith On Difference Between Redskins And Colts

First, yes too many players have said it and it's a culture that needs to change and I believe that it is (though after a couple of decades it may take a while). Second, it's not every player. Third, some of these guys who talk need to take a hard look in the mirror.
