Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
MS isnt ready to get off the couch for less than HC and maybe more.
This can't hurt, Zorn is in WAY over his head, and needs all the help he can get. And if I'm a betting man Zorn has 12 games left in DC...best case. Redskins Hire Lewis As Offensive Consultant

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
Really interesting move. He's been out of the league for a while but he's a proven offensive coordinator. I mean I'm not jumping to any conclusion here...but he was Holmgren's OC in Green Bay.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
This is so weird cause I was watching NFL Network yesterday or the day before and Lewis was coaching under Mariucci. Anyway he was coaching up Charles Rogers and Lewis was on the video. And I was just thinking, "what ever happened to that guy?"

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
Wow. I remember Lewis back in the 90's as one of the top black assistant coaches in the NFL and he never got a head job. He worked under Holmgrem if I'm correct. I don't know who was behind this but who ever it is I want to say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

He's no spring chicken so he's probably not a long term answer. Supposedly, and I don't have confirmation right now, this was Vinny's call. So ,again not to speculate, but it's hard not to think this isn't Holmgren scouting the roster via his buddy Sherman Lewis so the off-season changes (or non-changes) move smoothly.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
Good point. They didn't want to give Art Shell a chance at one point either. Eventhough they let him go after a year. But he was one of those who broke the glass ceiling so to speak.Let's not go to the college ranks where in all the hundreds of colleges in Division 1. There are only like 3 african american head coaches. Sad. Luckily pereceptions have changed in the NFL now with Dungy, Tomlin & Lovie Smith.

Redskins hire Sherm Lewis as consultant | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins
The Washington Redskins announced today that they have hired longtime NFL assistant coach Sherman Lewis as an offensive consultant. Lewis, a 22-year NFL coaching veteran, brings a history of success and a vast knowledge of the West Coast Offense, in addition to four Super Bowl rings. “Sherm Lewis is an outstanding coach who has been an instrumental member of four Super Bowl championship teams,” Redskins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato said. “Sherm’s history started with the innovator of the West Coast Offense, Bill Walsh, and over the past two decades he has directed some of the best offenses, and coached and developed some of the league’s premier players. He has a diverse NFL background, having coached running backs, wide receivers, and serving as a coordinator. Jim and Sherman share a common bond in that they both worked for Mike Holmgren at different times in their careers. Sherman’s overall experience and expertise will be a tremendous addition to our coaching staff. His track record humbles us all.”

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
He might end up being Zorn's replacement..lol. Oops did I say that. this make sme think we might bring Holmgren in also. Because FO doesn't want to blow up the team. They dont believe in rebuilding. They know us as fans heads will explode. lol

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant
Well you are going to have to blow up the team if you want all the pieces on offense to fit right. Like other guys have said perviously, you have a team that until draft '08 was centered around Gibbs' offense. The switch to the WCO hasn't been all that great thus far, in fact we regressed tremendously after the '08 Lions game. Sherm Lewis might be able to help some, but he can't help all that much with a banged up line and a WR corp that is weak other than Santana. I like Sherm and think he can only do good for us, but this was an act of depseration or Dan is already getting the wheels greased up for Sherm or Holmgren to take over next season. Maybe we can get both of them together again!!!!! Either way you are going to have to do some dismantling of the offensive personnel. Holmgren/Lewis will have to get the right personnel in there to successfully run the WCO or you if you land a yet to be named guy, he might not run a WCO and we are back to where we were when Spurrier quit. A major rebuilding effort might be unavoidable, as we have both a systemic and personnel problem.

Yeah in the long run it may make a difference. Reminds me of, ummm, Bill Arnsparger.
