Belichick walking off with time on the clock
Did anyone have a problem with that?
I'm sure he's catching major heat for it today. |

I love the fact that they rubbed his nose in it by making them defend for another snap.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
I don't think it's a huge deal really, he did stop and shake hands with and congratulate Coughlin and the Giants before he left the field.
That's how Belichick is, we shouldn't expect him to change

It was a meaningless second. He (as anyone would) wanted to get out of there. Do either of those reasons excuse a coach from leaving before his team is off the field? IMHO, no. You're the boss (as he has so evidently made clear in the past). You wait until the game is over and head out. (No need to shake hands a second time). Otherwise, you're just leaving your players out there to face the celebrations alone. Many a coach stood there for meaningless minutes while your team played its starters with the game's outcome settled - You can man up and wait one second for the game to end. Belichick is a great coach, but that doesn't mean he should be or is excused from being a poor sport.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
I thought the Giants should have called one more play for a TD.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
How insane would that have been? Fake taking a knee and toss it up for a TD?! That would have been hilarious.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
Isn't Belichick the one who said that anytime his offense takes the field he expects them to score?

He was in a rush to find a quiet corner of the locker room and go cry his guts out.

~~Break~~ I saw Bill shake Toms hand, and then walk off, and nobody at the house seemed to have a problem with it. To me, it goes against what Bill was saying about being on the field, expecting to score every down and all that. The bottom line is that he walked off the field and almost his entire team there without thier coach even if it's for only 1 second. Being a Military guy, I'm always going to be the first one in, and the last one out.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
No, not a huge deal. But...
But if there's time on the clock and your team has to line up for one last play and the head coach is halfway up the tunnel, it doesn't really send the best message. |

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
Yea, I just felt that it was another example of how classless Belichick is. I thinnk everyone knew this would happen if they lost.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
Who cares? The only thing he needed to do once the game was done was to congratulate Coughlin, which he did. The refs messed up the clock and ticked it down to :00 - it's not like he pulled a Randy Moss.

Re: Belichick walking off with time on the clock
Belichick being his normal, classless self. In fact, I thought it was poor form that the entire Patriots team left without offering any congratulations to the Giants players. Maybe I'm just remembering Super Bowls incorrectly, and I understand it's all about the Giants celebrating when the clock hits zero, but isn't it customary for at least some of the players to shake hands and say "congrats, you guys really earned it today..."?
