Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
No doubt. It's a near certainty. Is he eligible this next year, or the year after?

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
If 81 is not a first ballot HOFer, then no way should 28 be one. I like him and all, but no way is Darrell Green more deserving than Art Monk.

Are you out of your f-ing mind? Green was a 7 time pro-bowler and is the original shut down corner. Not to mention he was huge returning punts. |

My post was more of a testament to what has happened to Art Monk (who held several *meaningful* records either during his career or at retirement) than it was to whether or not 28 should be a first ballot HOFer. In a perfect world, they both should be HOFers, but we've all seen what has happened to Art Monk, and if it happened to him, then it is not outside the realm of reality to think it could also happen to DGreen.

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
Darrell Green is a 1st ballot HOFer if I've ever seen one. He played at a very high level for most of his career and he has created several lasting memories. Maybe that's why the HOF can be viewed as a popularity contest, I mean Lynn Swann got in solely because of a couple of circus catches that just so happened to be in the Super Bowl. I can still see DG hurdling that Bear on a punt return and running into the end zone holding his rib.
Monk was fantastic for us, moved the chains, made the tough catch in traffic, did his thing every game, and was even the career leader in receptions and consecutive games with a catch when he retired and even was the first wideout to break 100 catches in a season. He is without a doubt among the best Redskins to ever wear the uniform, however when you think of Monk you think of a possession receiver. Yet in 4 more seasons he only caught 3 more tds than Irvin. I don't see Monk getting in unless the veterans bring him in. |

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
I would say that Darrell Green is absolutely a Hall of Fame player, who will greatly benefit by the fact that no other "mortal locks" retired the same year he did.
http://www.darrellgreen.com/awards_accomplishments.html I hope he does make it, and soon, because I'm sure he will credit his skill to (after God and the coaching staff) the players he practiced against - namely Art Monk. It occurs to me that the only way the writers are going to vote him in is if they are shamed into it.

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
The pressure will be high to put Darrell in b/c he was such a good role model on top of being a great player. At least I hope so. It will be sweet if he says some stuff about Art Monk trying to grease the wheels on his admission too.

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
I believe Green will be on the first ballot and it would be neat to see him and Monk go at the same time. They both deserve it.
