I couldn't believe that when I saw the news this morning. Champ for Portis and possibly our 2nd rounder, I say go for it even with a 2nd rounder. Portis is just 22 and already has back to back 1500+ yard seasons, this is a move we have to make IMO.

oh yeah

It is the combination of many things, but mainly champ doesnt want to be here, Portis doesnt want to be in Denver, he is very cheap for the next two years, even if we throw him a bone and give him a bonus or something it is still saving tons on the salary cap...obviously if we give up our second pick this year then we need to address defense with our first round pick...my vote is for taylor out of Miami...

hey guys, what's the cap ramifications on us taking Portis and giving up champ. If I'm not mistaken, Portis still is under contract from when he signed as a rookie and that would obviously be be cap friendly however, will he want a new deal with the Skins. Oh yeah, is Scott's gonna help him pack, I'll drive his moving truck for him for NADA !!! So long Champ ...

not sure of the exact number but I do know that it is in the 300K range, basically nothing!! Champ would have been 6.8 MIL so a net savings of 6.5 MIL for a better player IMO

That's definetly a good thing from a cap perspective. Later Champ, hello Clinton Portis and the Skins running the ball up everybody's A_S !!! Don't get me wrong, Champ is one of, if not the best, cover corner in the NFL IMO and will be missed however, Trung and Ladell won't be able to get the job done in Gibbs' system on the offensive side so, I like the trade.

Portis is going to be looking for a new deal though I'm pretty sure.

I am sure he will be looking for a new deal but we dont have to give him one, he has two years left, make him prove himself as a redskin then restructure next year.

The drama just never stops this offseason does it?

I love the idea of getting Portis, a back of his caliber could do some extraordinary things in a Gibbs offense.

What I don't like is the idea of giving up a 2nd round pick-- in addition to Bailey-- to get Portis.

When you consider the fact that Portis has compiled his stats in Shanahan's Denver offense-- which produced so many 1,000 yard seasons with other runningbacks, while Bailey has been a defensive stalwart under so many different defensive coordinators and schemes, hasn't missed a single game, and has 4 Pro Bowls to his name; it's hard to fathom giving up anything additional-- especially a 2nd round pick-- in a trade.

I just feel like the Redskins are getting the short end of the stick in their haste to deal Bailey by March 3rd. The irony of all of this is that with Gibbs' return, we expected to see a more measured, conservative approach to offseason acquisitions. The reality is that Gibbs' return seems to have brought about a more frenetic pace and tone to what was already known as one of the most hyperactive front offices in the league.

My sentiments exactly...

Arrington's agent suspended!

Carl Poston, the agent for ex-Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, was suspended for two years Wednesday by the NFL Players Association's Committee on Agent Regulation & Discipline, the SportsBusiness Journal reported.

The suspension stems from violations over Arrington's contract negotiations at the end of the 2003 season. Arrington claims the Redskins orally agreed to a $6.5 million bonus, a bonus that was subsequently left out of the former Penn State star's contract.

"The suspension is wrong, irresponsible, and in violation of the NFLPA rules," Poston's lawyer, Paul Aloe, said in a statement issued Thursday. "We intend to vigorously contest this using all appropriate legal remedies. These charges are utterly without merit. It is LaVar Arrington's call whether or not Carl adequately represents him. LaVar has urged that the charges be dismissed and that Carl did nothing wrong."

Aloe said the Poston will take the case to arbitration under NFLPA rules. Poston will continue to represent his clients while contesting the suspension.

"We are confident that when the process is completed, Carl will be completely vindicated," Aloe said.

In August, Arrington and the team came to a settlement over the bonus, but terms favored the Redskins, who agreed only to a deal that would make Arrington a free agent or net him a $3.25 million bonus if he made the Pro Bowl in two of the next four seasons. He did not make the Pro Bowl this season.

Arrington reached an agreement with the Redskins earlier this month that allowed him to become a free agent. He said Thursday that he will keep Poston as his agent.

"It's a total injustice,'' Arrington said. "Things like that happen in life."

In January, the NFLPA filed a formal complaint seeking disciplinary action against Poston for "neglect."

Poston's suspension was announced at the players' union's annual meeting in Maui.
