If You Were Patrick Ramsey's Agent...

Here's the scenario:

You have replaced Jimmy Sexton as Patrick Ramsey's agent. The Redskins have been forced by circumstances to release your client.

You want to contact teams where he has a good chance of beating out the incumbents on a team that has most of the parts in place for a winning run.

If you can't find one like that, then do the best you can.

What teams do you contact?

With the exception of Miami, your list, to me, looks like one where Ramsey might have the best chance of starting but not one where he'd have a good chance of proving himself a bona fide NFL QB.

It's your job as his agent to know the situations. The contract comes later.

I think we must be talking about different things. I have a pretty good idea of whether the Jets' current situation would offer Ramsey a chance to succeed. I don't have to ask them.

GMs and coaches will all talk a good game if they want to sign you.

I'd be pushing Patrick towards Miami. Saban seems to have a good plan in place, they have playmakers at WR and RB, if they just add some talent up front on the OL they'll be good to go.

I like Miami for Ramsey. I'd also take a strong look at Oakland with Porter, Moss, and LaMont Jordan.

Oakland has a few weapons but who is Tom Walsh? Is he going to be better than Norv at getting the offense going?

Tom Walsh is resigning as mayor of his city to be the raiders offensive coordinator! How many people can say they're leaving politics for football? It's usually the other way around

Re: If You Were Patrick Ramsey's Agent...

At the moment, Miami looks like the best target for a trade, but if he's released, more options open up for Ramsey, in my opinion.

Despite what Mike Martz says about Harrington, a confident Patrick Ramsey should have no fear of competing for the Detroit job. They have the scheme and the receivers but need to upgrade the OL.

Scott Linehan of the Rams is said to prefer strong-armed QBs... not just to stretch the field but to get the ball to receivers in a hurry. Bulger's arm strength is average. Isaac Bruce is on the downside, though.

I don't think Ramsey should fear competition with older QB names who are marginal performers.

Bledsoe at 35 is coming off a poor year at Dallas. They aren't loaded with weapons on the offense, though.

Kurt Warner at 35 was only serviceable at Arizona with all their weapons. They have the cap room to carry two decent QBs.

Culpepper and the Vikes might be parting ways. That isn't a bad team offensively.

In Ramsey's shoes, I wouldn't fear a competition with Chris Simms at Tampa Bay. A one-year deal could set him up with a good situation there.

If Patrick thinks he has what it takes, he's not going to duck a fair head-to-head competition with anyone except a solidly entrenched QB.

I think you have to wait to see where D. Brees lands. If Miami signs him, then you have the San Diego situation to consider. They have a good situation also and Rivers is an untested QB at the NFL level. Brees is question mark also with his labrum surgery on an arm that was barely adequate in strength to begin with.

A one-year deal with either team could work out really well for patrick especially if we go into an uncapped 2007.

According to the NJ Star Ledger, Pennington is staying with the Jets and they're expected to sign Kitna to back him up.

Whoever starts for the Jets will not be supported anyway. As Patrick's agent, I don't want him there.
