Re: CB Ignored in Free Agency

They gave Ade an RFA sheet, so I think they hope he can play nickle. But my guess is that when the market calms down, we'll bring in a vet 3rd CB or two, and see who steps up in camp. IMHO, CBs are overpaid right now, and we have two starters so there's no need to jump in yet. A pass rusher, on the other hand...

They may also try to do what Denver did last year and use the draft to find corners. I think this year's group is pretty deep in that area.

we've got pass rushers sighted at least. If dyson is cheap, he'd be good. hopefully then at least 2 of the 3 would be healthy each week.

i think the spray and pray is a good idea. but they used a ton of day one picks on corners and 5ths and 6ths are much less likely to prove worthwhile

BUT, its not like there's any position where those picks would be really likely to turn into useful players.

Re: CB Ignored in Free Agency

I'd like to see the 2nd rounder on an OLB... I think someone like Andre Dyson would be perfect for what we run on defense. He was very productive putting pressure on the QB at Tennessee. I just dont want ol' Dan to overpay someone like this. Him or not, I'd like to see us address the d backfield through FA (Archuleta, r w, etc...)

I wasn't saying dont talk about it. I was saying I'm not worried about it because Gibbs and Snyder will get what we need before the start of camp. It's now 3 days into free agency. These people have been working since last season ended to fix the cap situation, fill holes and improve this team...do you really think they haven't thought about filling the 3rd CB spot? I dont.

I'm new here and in no way was trying to offend anyone. Just stating my opinion.

Steve Smith AND...

That's what I like about the Panthers, they really have one offensive threat (as of this writing).

they way overpaid deshaun. he's a reassonable RB, decent at catching too, but he's ended 3 of 4 years on IR. he's ALWAYS hurt.

Re: CB Ignored in Free Agency

I'm surprised at what I'm hearing in this thread. I think we need to be thinking CB and only CB with that 2nd rounder in the draft. Shawn Springs is great, but on the wrong side of 30. Rogers seems poised to be a solid #1 corner for a number of years. But behind those two, we have nothing. I think it serves our interests to get a rookie with some talent in the fold, he can start off as nickel and then take over for Springs once he becomes a total geezer. Given the depth of CB in the draft, we're pretty much guaranteed a shot at a good one. We need to be thinking about the future, CB is not a position I want to mess around with. Need to take young talent while it's available, and it's available at our 2nd rounder this year.

you could say that about a lot of positions. a #3 CB is cheaper in FA than a starting quality OL guy or a LB replacement for arrington. both of those guys HAVE to be starting quality, the CB doesn't.

besides, we might pickup dyson whos a good #2 anyways and cheap.

Pardon my ignorance, but which 'Dyson' are you referring to, and what team does he play for?
