Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Tonite at the Wizards game 4 against the Heat, where we lost to the best team in the Eastern Conference (Congratulations guys on a landmark season, building a great foundation for the future), they showed Champ, Portis, and Smoot hanging out together. Champ Bailey got a loud boo from the crowd. Definetely a funny site.

Funniest thing was on the "kiss me" cam promotion, where they zoom in on couples to kiss on the jumbo-tron, they zeroed in on Champ and G-Wiz, the mascot, and G-Wiz jumped on him.

Just thought you guys should know.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

I saw the three of them when they pointed them out, but the kiss me thing sounds halarious. I didnt watch the entire game, but did they make note of Smoot at all? I know the first time they just pointed out Bailey and Portis.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Portis defiently can compete with Neon on his snappy outfit. Think he wanted to be noticed? Thought that stuff went out in the 70's. And hanging with 2 guys who we thought wanted to be Redskins for life, lame. Did they boo Smoot?

Smoot and Bailey can go %$#$#^$ themselves... I was a huge Smoot fan but he showed me nothing in the offseason. He went to a team who alwyas has problems after we got Gibbs back and started rebuilding??? He is super lame...

I definetely wish Smoot resigned with us after laying his heart out on the line. It hurt to lose him. However, the Vikings being a team who always has problems... over the last 5 years, at least they have had an overall winning record. And one of there biggest problems is now on the Raiders. The Vikings signed some marquis FA's for their defense which brings mixed reactions. I believe the Vikings will not improve their defense the way many expect them to. It is tough to mold your defense with so many new, middle-big-name free agents. What do you guys think?

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Smoot was a free agent, Gibbs used skewed logic to chase him out of town, therefore, we lost him. The Vikes gave him a more frontloaded contract worth a bit more (which means he'll actually see more cash) than what we offered him.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

players are people. Fans forget that often. they probraly were friends and will continue to be friends. The players also probraly love the dc area and dc fans so they often come back. the business side of football is what makes turns heroes into villians, when like all people they're just trying to get the best value for their services. Smoot and Bailey are most likely Wizards fans, while we all know portis is a heat fan. go figure

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Exactly, people act like these guys should cut ties with each other when they change teams? Please. They make friendships in Washington and it doesn't turn into what we like to turn it into.

Do I like the way Champ left? No. But in all -- who cares, we have Portis.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

It's a show me the money type of business. Why should fans have any animosity towards a player who leaves is beyond me. Smoot did what was best for him. We all know the Redskins do what's best for them all the fucking time. I still have love for Champ. I seriously don't think anything he said about the team was nasty in nature. Now the question I have is Portis hanging out with Champ or Smoot?

All NBA teams seems to do the Kiss thing. I was at a Sonics game two months ago and they were showing couples on the Jumbo screen and egged them on to Kiss. They had this one "couple" who they showed on the screen and the woman would not kiss the bloke. Just down right refused and shook her head in disgust. The crowd booed the hell out of her and finally she caved in and gave him a quick kiss on the cheeks. The crowd continued to boo her for the flaky kiss. Funny shit.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Gibbs said Smoot was one of the core guys. I read nothing about him not liking Smoot. What about a guy like Brady? He could have milked the Patriots for more $$$ but he did the right thing for the team. Smoot sould have done the same. The money wasn't all that different.

As for Champ, I kind of understand why he left... The team was in Turmoil every year and the turnover was ridiculous, but Smoot saw what the team could do under Gibbs and Williams...

As for the Vikes, yes they have major issues all of the time....
A. Ownership, who is it going to be?
B. Scalping any Superbowl tix anyone???
C. The original Whizzinator gaffe?
D. Losing Moss might help the locker room but he is a major player.
E. Current ownership saying that Tice was about to get fired

And it probably goes on from there...

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

The total number wasn't much different on Smoot's contract, but the amount of cash he was going to actually see was a totally different story.

Gibbs said he was a core guy, yet said that since he didn't play as well as Springs, he didn't deserve more money than him. Sorry, but that doesn't work in today's NFL. Should we go out and give Marcus Washington a payraise because he outperformed Arrington? Was Samuels the best lineman last year, no. However we had no gripe giving him one of the most massive contracts in Redskins history. He said that, but didn't walk the walk with other guys. Also, Smoot doesn't have any questions about his durability, and has been here thick and thin through this team. In my opinion, that makes him worth more than Springs.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

In my opinion, Smoot is overrated. Althoug he may have been a decent cover corner for the Redskins, he was too frail to be a force in the run defense. To me it seemed that everytime he threw himself at a running back, he got injured. Smoot is 5'11'' 174; Carlos Rogers is 6'0'' 198. Both seem to have the same speed, yet Rogers is a much more physical athlete. I think the front office did the right thing in letting Smoot walk rather than paying him something he was not worth. The Front Office disappointed me in not matching Antonio Pierce's offer from the Giants. He seemed to understand Greg Williams' defense and had everyone playing and reacting to the right spots. Athletically, Pierce was not that gifted (UFA); mentally he was brilliant this let both him and his team overcome any lack of athletcism. We have a potential to fill his void with someone on the roster who is more gifted than Pierce athletically, but the question remains whether or not we will be able to replace his mental skills. I guess the front office felt they could get somebody to replace Pierce' abilities at a much more bargain value and not have to give him a contract that was worth more than Marcus Washington's. Being skins fans, we hope it plays out well for the defense and the team.

Re: Portis, Champ, and Smoot

Time will tell if letting Smoot and Pierce walk was the right move. Financially, it would have made things really tight down the road if we brought both of them back. Rogers could prove to be a better fit in this D with his physical style, and we seem to have good depth at LB.
