I am venting on randy thomas
i honestly believe that he is the worst lineman on our team, including practice players........i cant believe joe bugel can look himself in the mirror and start this guy.......i have held off for the last 4 weeks, and we have crushed jon jansen all season. well i am going to point out that 77 is by far the worst olineman. he misses more blocks than anyone on that line, and how many times is he gonna run down field and whiff. he isnt the player he was before being hurt in the cowboy game in 05. he plays with very little heart. i fell i can say that based on what ive seen both in results and reactions. i know he is a good guy and people like him, and this post will catch flak. this guy looks so confused on every snap on who to block. its no wonder jon jansen looks confused at times because when they have tandem blocks he cant trust randy thomas to make a good decision or a good block to help the play work better. i havent been this upset at a player in years, after 4 weeks of his poor play i feel it was time someone say something about him instead of jansen, rabach, samuels, and kendell. one guy breaks down the whole line does......and i feel he is the leader of the pack based on what i have seen lately.
as a guest speaker at a football event for area coaches, he said "Why do you think i came to Washington? to get paid."---now i know this a childish thing to bring up and it was years ago and ended with a laugh....but i believe that is all he is doing now, showing up and picking up his pay check.......so i thought what he said was appropriate to bring up considering i am clearly singling him out.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
No doubt it is possible that you've watched ever broadcast and noted each time he misses a block, but I just don't know how you can tell these things on every single play without getting the wide view and dissecting tape with the players and coaches.
It's like saying Jason isn't releasing the ball quick enough. Since I only get to see Jason Campbell, I'm not exactly sure what he's seeing. I just feel like this is one of those. |

Not sure, but I think you are wrong. I am not even sure why I think you are wrong.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
Uhm. Ok. I'll run with it. Lets replace the whole line with younger, "healtier" linemen who are quicker and faster and maybe bigger to take on the bigger D-line. We'll just have to deal with them screwing up once and a while due to lack of playing time in the NFL and the speed of the game. Not to mention learning a new offense. but ....atleast we couldn't complain about not having younger guys on the field.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
He, like every other guy up front, isn't having his best year. And like every other guy up front, it looks like his best years are behind him.
Rabach is the true weak link to me. Problem is, thanks to signing that sack-machine, Jason Taylor, we don't have nearly enough draft picks to even start re-assembling the O-line. And that's exactly what needs to happen -- apart from Chris Samuels, (and finding his replacement can't be put off too much longer) BOTH offensive and defensive lines need to be completely rebuilt. |

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
You'll get a very different performance from week to week from Randy Thomas. Perhaps 3 to 4 games this year, he's looked very lost. Other games, he seems pretty serviceable. Not the dominant player he was when he was pulling around on counters and blowing up ends and linebackers on the outside.
We're also not running a scheme that's to his physical advantages. He has often looked lost in run blocking, a big reason we can't run to the right. Where as every other lineman adapted to the new blocking schemes with ease, the transition is really killing Thomas. Perhaps now is not the time to point out that Vinny just gave him an extension last offseason?

GTripp:
You beat me to it. I was going to drop in here the fact that the Skins tied up Thomas for a long term deal. I thought it was two seasons ago but defer to you that it was last year. Somehow, I don't think that's going to make a lot of people get a warm and fuzzy feeling... For the record, I think Thomas and Kendall have played adequately this year. The OL problems seem to me to be the center and the two tackles more than the guards.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
I think Kendall has done extremely well as a late career vet who was disgruntled leaving the Jets. Kendall is money.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
Bugs said in preseason that our line looked very strong and was blowing guys off the ball. I guess he was watching our O line blowing our D line off the ball so it all now makes good sense.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
I don't see any problem with Randy Thomas specifically. Typically these kinds of things are contagious and there is no one true culprit. It seems like the whole line is tired and playing a step slower...let's face it they are old. I think Rabach has been the most penalized of the offensive linemen and i was noticing over the past few games that he is snapping the ball sooner than the rest of the linemen anticipate. That could be why the defenses look like they have a step on us. Also don't underrate the fact that we have played some really tough D-line/pass rushes over the past 5-6 games (Pittsburgh, NYG, Ravens, and Dallas)
Bottom line is that it's a systemic problem with everyone on the line.

Re: I am venting on randy thomas
ya i am not going to say randy is the weak link.the entire line is old which shows in there blocking they can run block(going forward making holes for portis)but when there trying to stop the pass rush there are no lanes for jason to throw and guys are in his face batting the ball down.
