Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
ESPN.com - NFL/DRAFT07 - Magazine: Huge for his age
Although I've been a devils advocate LL and CJ booster because so many people seem to think DL is the ONLY way to go, you've got to like the sound of this guy. I for one would not be upset if they picked him. He's smart, tough and real young, with tons of upside. I wonder how his age will play in the minds of the team based on the fact that this guy will have more impact down the road and Gibbs needs wins now. Thoughts? I couldn't find this so I started a thread. If this is a repeat, please delete. I believe Okoye has gotten the most support from people here. Linkage above. |

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
We all know what an athletic freak Calvin Johnson is. And JaMarcus Russell's size and arm strength is in the freakish category.
Athletically speaking, this guy Okoye is the only other one I'd call freakish. To be this size at 19 is nothing short of astounding, and to be this quick on top of it, pretty special. There's potential to put on even more muscle which is the most amazing thing of all. I think he'd make a very good anchor for the run defense, and he'd be quick enough to command attention in the pass rush. He's the guy in the draft I want us to draft most.

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
Best scenario. Atlanta can't/don't want to trade up for Calvin Johnson. Instead, Atlanta trades picks #8 and #75 overall to move up two spots and take Landry. Redskins drop to #8 and take Okoye plus get a 3rd round pick pretty close to the one we gave up for (cough) T.J. Duckett. Works on the trade value chart and makes sense for Atlanta if they really want Landry as many 'experts' indicate.

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
with okoye the sky is the limit with the so called upside bit how patient are some around here going to be with the development of such a young player? he would make some plays here but there are going to be some he cant or wont make and i wonder how receptive our defensive coaching staff will be with that. Hopefully a little more flexible than they were with a certain safety.

funny you said that considering i swear i have uttered this phrase for at least 15 years now....there is always next season. I am so sick of that. I am ready for a championship caliber team now. The future is now considering the age of most of the offensive coaching staff.....with that being said the skins need to draft someone with their pick that will immediately help us. As appealing as okoye is how raw is he? is he ready to step in and contribute now? if the answer is yes then by all means we need to draft him but if not i dont know....With the six pick all i am asking for is a player who can step in right now and contribute.

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
At 19 he is better than anyone else we have at DT (except possibly a healthy Griffin). Does this mean that he is at full potential? Absolutely not, but he can definately step in and contribute come September. How great would it be having a Pro Bowl beast along the line for a 16-17 year career?
Personally I'd rather trade down w/ Denver, pick up 2 extra picks and grab Carriker. With the way Okoye has been moving up mock draft boards the lowest we can go is probably 9 with Miami if we still want him. |

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
Could you picture winning a Super Bowl, and not being allowed to drink? That would suck. I wouldn't be suprised if he was an impact player wherever he goes. All of the other sports have started pulling in these young players, why not the NFL?

Re: Okoye Article In ESPN The Magazine
It's silly to just want to win this year. That is something that has obviously not worked the last 5 years of trying it. It shouldn't be so ridiculous to build a team to win in three years.
Making excuses under the guise of wanting to win it every year just shows desparation and not pre-meditated strategy. I rather follow a plan than just to take random roulette shots every year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ By the way, love my Skins! |
