interview advice
Today I have an inteview for an internal promotion, I've never done this before. I'm assuming it might be a little different than a normal interview since they already know me.
Any advice or suggestions? |

Re: interview advice
it will probably be more about your personal goals, which direction you see the company moving towards, and which way you want to take the new job

Re: interview advice
Sometimes small things can turn the table for you.
Don't be to concerned about saying what they want to hear, but try to give things a positive spin, rather than negative. Problems=oppurtunities Be yourself. If you can't be yourself, you probably don't want the job anyway. I guess in answer to your original question...........no

Re: interview advice
I've had two successful intenal job interviews. Just kiss a lot of ass and then joke about how you're kissing a lot of ass
![]() If you can speak candidly with the interviewer (HR?) just explain why you feel you're better suited for the new position than you are with the old one. I wouldn't express disatisfaction with your current one, though.

Re: interview advice
Stress how you have worked hard to advance within the Co. Remember what your boss has stated as goals and other stuff that they are looking to achieve. Yes kissing a little butt is fine and if you under stand the direction of the Co. by their past comunications to you then that will help you answer their questions on the same thought line as they are on. For Example I'm in the insurance business and the Co. is not looking to grow along the cost in Homeowners but they are looking to grow auto, and financial products. So if I was interviewing I'd streess selling the products that they want to grow in and not the other areas.

Re: interview advice
Don't ever lie. When asked a question whose answer you don't know or don't remember say so. It's amazing how many people try to bullshit your way through interviews. Oh and I always make sure that the person I'm going to work understands that if hired I'm going to make them look good.
Good luck.

Re: interview advice
Well I can definately tell you what not to do. I am not that great at interviews because I don't have the ability to BS at all. I am always completely blunt and honest no matter what people ask me. Here's a sample of my final interview with the Sheriff for the job I currently work at. (prior to my current job I worked as a courtroom clerk in Guilford County)
Sheriff: I see here you live in Randolph County. Why did you decide to apply with my office instead of applying with Randolph? Me: Well, I've always worked in Guilford County. I was born and raised here. I know the people here. The attorneys, the DA's, the Judges, a lot of the law enforcement officers. It's home. And well, I guess because... Randolph wasn't hiring and you were. ![]() Sheriff: Ok... I also see here that you worked in the Clerk's office for eight years. What have you heard about me around the courthouse? Me: Well... um... not much really. I've never heard anything bad. Sheriff: (laughing) I guess that's a good thing. Then he ended it by saying, "According to one of your references, they said you don't have very much patience with people who don't do their jobs, but aside from that... blah, blah, blah... I'm like, what in the world? Thank God he didn't want me to expound on that. But he was right. I don't have a lot of patience. If it wasn't for the fact that my references were all Judges, DA's, and clerks and my experience level, I don't think I would have gotten the job based on that interview. |

Make sure they know you hate your boss - it shows you know how smart you are and that you are better than him. Don't be afraid to use curse words gratuitously - shows your a real man. Compliment any woman her on her clevage - that'll soften her right up. Give everyone a nickname - Jimbo, Dipshit, Ass clown, Bitch tits, etc... shows you are an easy going guy and will relate well with with any subordinates. Mention that you consider this site to be your real job - shows you know where your priorities lay. If I think of anything else I will let you know. |
