Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

Derrick Dockery looked like he made some strides on Sunday. On one play in particular I remember Dockery tossing a d-lineman from Houston to the side like a ragdoll and taking on another block to spring a big run. I remember seeing him doing some more of that in the Houston game as well. I think, for the first time I remember, that he made a big step toward living up to that potential that Buge's is always talking about.

Dock was a monster yesterday, no doubt.

That is where he is best. In mauling run blocking. He did well. We had some other under the radar quality performances yesterday.

Sellers played well. Betts played well. Cooley blocked outstandingly. We didn't hear Carlos Rogers' name much. Washington was a beast as normal. Just about everyone reall excelled.

Betts definitely ran his a$$ off. I think that we're at our best when we have Portis and Betts tearin' it up and keeping each other fresh. Both of them put up some monster stats.

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

Betts is a very average back. We've all said it before, solid #2 RB, but if he's your starter then your RB situation ain't great.

Put him behind a line that performed as well as the Skins did yesterday, and Betts can look pretty darn good. But Betts didn't suddenly get better. He just had mad space to run through. Dockery and Randy Thomas especially looked great. When it came to the run game, the line stepped up.

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

I thought ( as did everyone, I suppose), that the whole line played well. That was certainly in part a function of the Texans woeful front, but whatever. It should build confidence and chemistry. Our line excells when the blockers get to the second level and can crush LBs and DBs. And they have the talent to do so. Did yall notice the counters and pulls that they ran? I love seeing those huge lineman come sweeping around and just smashing people. Very old school.

They still have to get their short yardage groove on. Sometimes, it takes them a bit to get going, and so in short yardage, they miss the initial push. But when they can get out into space, man. That's a Gibbs/Buges line at its best. Nice to see Saunders using it well.

Now they've got to take that momentum and match up with maybe the best front in the league. GO DIRTBAGS!!!

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

Dockery looks a lot leaner and meaner than last year. Hindsight is 20/20 but man we should have locked him up for a few years. Knowing the Skins, he'll probably walk for more money at the end of the year.

That's why the skins ran so well last year. Run outside the tackle with DOCK pulling!

Yea, he looked like a beast during that play - tossing the D-lineman and making a block in the same play. If I had to rate the weakest O-lineman for the skins, I'd say its probably Rabach (even though he had a few great blocks yesterday). This entire line is at its best when we run...just like games 11 through 16 last year.

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

If by 'kicking it up a notch' you mean he was the only one not called for a holding penalty, then yes.

Bam. Now if the rest of the linemen could do the same...

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

This thread is kind of ironic, I broke the game down last night and the one standout was Dockery, for what you ask? For getting knocked on his ass constantly, and missing block after block, he is the major problem with our line, fortuantly for us yesterday we really didn't need a big effort from him, if he's in open space guy's just run right around him, that's if he can figure out who to try and hit at all, and even when he does make contact in close he usually gets knocked down, or the defender slides around him immediatly. Dockery play's the guard postion as if he weighed 200lbs and was slow. I was going to start a thread today called the weekest link but this thread will do. People I believe are trying to find a way to legitamize Dockery because of his tremendous size, but size is meaningless if you can't or don't know how to use it, we should have had a backup plan for this guy he's just not a football player.

Jansen also has to get it together he's being pushed all over the place the first 3 games.

Re: Dockery Kicks it Up a Notch!

I think Dockery should have been tested for steroids or PCP in that HOuston game. Every play he was plowing holes and swinging bodies around like he was the incredible Hulk.

Yes, there was a time when Jansen was the one guy you could always count on when the rest of the offense was in a funk.

Not anymore.
