Draft Observations and Predictions from Day 1: Place your own here
1. This might be one of the only years where all the QB's drafted in the 1st round will go on to have succesful careers with the team that drafted them. I say this b/c all three QB's will have a chance to sit and develop which has become a lost artform in todays NFL.
2. Vernon Davis will become a monster and possibly save Alex Smith's career. I'll go as far to say he will be THE TE in 3 years 3. The Jets had a Patriot like draft (which was to be expected). In saying that watch out, in 3 years the Jets will have the BEST O-LINE in the league. At this point passing up on Leinart might have been for the best. 4. Cudos to the Packers. They have had added a lot of solid prospects, especially AJ Hawk, who next to Nick Barnet will flourish and eventually become an elite player. 5. The Texans passing on Reggie Bush was a HORRIBLE move and a reminder why Casserly doesn't work for the Redskins anymore. Not only did they passing on an amazing talent, but they are really not helping their financial situation. By living in Atlanta I have witnessed the type of impact a primetime player can have on a team. Aside from forfeiting hunderds of yards and points in offense they are also throwing away millions in jersey, ticket, and concession sales. On top of that almost every D-Lineman drafted first overall has been a bust. Courtney Brown Anyone? 6. Leinart should count his blessings. Going to Arizona was one of the best things that could have happened to him, which is kind of ironic considering what going to Arizona has meant in the past. He will be going to a franchise that will have not the triplets but the Quintuplets. Look at how much fun Smith is having in San Francisco. On top of that with a new stadium, uniforms, and a fan base that is growing (and going away from rooting for Dallas) you've gotta admit, its a good time to be a fan of Phoneix pro sports. 7. Buffalo, Buffalo, Buffalo. This franchise is trying to move to LA. Lets review their offseason. 1. They were the only team to reject the CBA 2. They hired a washed up coach in Dick Jauron 3. They got rid of a lot of their good players, some can be under stood for cap reasons (Moulds, Adams, Milloy) 4. They learned from 2005 that they don't have a QB 5. On draft day they took a Top 25 pick in the Top 10 and then traded up to get a 3rd round pick in the 1st round. I now deem this franchise the Basement of the NFL and they will enjoy screwing up the #1 overall pick next year. 8. The Giants were tired of the Skins being the only team in the East that could run WR Screens for 70 yards so as a result they tried to get in the action. Posers. 9. Gaffney, Westbrook, and McNabb OH MY!!! Is it just me or does the Eagles offense strike as much fear in you as as as, well something that doesn't scare you? But I also hate to admit that Bunkley was an excellent pick. 10. Guys that fell 1010Arizona Leinart, MattQB6-5224Southern California 436New England (from Green Bay) Jackson, ChadWR6-1212Florida537Atlanta (from San Francisco through Denver and Green Bay) Williams, JimmyCB6-2214Virginia Tech 739Philadelphia (from Tennessee) Justice, WinstonOT6-6320Southern California 1345Tennessee (from Philadelphia) White, LenDaleRB6-0237Southern California 165Houston Spencer, CharlesOT6-5351Pittsburgh266Houston (from New Orleans) Winston, EricOT6-6311Miami (Fla.)367Green Bay Hodge, AbdulILB6-0235Iowa 872Arizona Pope, LeonardTE6-8257Georgia 2690Tampa Bay Stovall, MauriceWR6-4218Notre Dame 2993St. Louis (from Denver through Atlanta and Green Bay) Byrd, DominiqueTE6-2256Southern California I'd also like to add that Max-Jean Giles is still on the board 11. The Ravens like having DT's with names that are hard to pronounce 12. The Redskins can't stop taking players from the U. Now its your turn. Make your own observations and predictions or comments on the ones that other people have made. Enjoy

Re: Draft Observations and Predictions from Day 1: Place your own here
AZ, jets, and eagles win. eagles really did well, even though their WRs are still trash, bunkley was the best DT in the draft and justice is a player can can be a true LT).
AZ they took a decent pass protector in the 2nd round too. I think the bills screwed the pooch, i think the vikings and bucs made talent stretches at their picks, i think GB screwed up (at 36 andd 37, they could have had two of the follwing: winston justice, jimmy williams, and chad jackson. Instead they pick up some 3rds and take daryn colledge and greg jennings. TWO difference makers (top 15 talents) passed up for very average prospects and abdul hodge, who's good.) redskins once again lock into a player and vastly overpay (relative to the talent they passed on), cause they get super-nervous (no balls). at least they got someone they like. |

Re: Draft Observations and Predictions from Day 1: Place your own here
1. The Philadelphia Eagles continue to catch every break in the draft. I refused to admit up until this point that the 31 other front offices are so inferior in collective intellect to them, but today was a pretty convincing arguement. It's really too bad they built their franchise around a loser, as talented as he may be.
2. The Denver Broncos manipulated no short of 6 teams to pull off a great draft. They abused us, San Francisco, Atlanta, the Jets, Green Bay and St. Louis to turn the 25th overall pick in 2005 and the 29th overall in 2006 into Javon Walker and Jay Cutler. 3. The Arizona Cardinals manipulated absolutely no one, and came out with the best draft. Leinart and Lutui are impressive, but getting the 2nd best TE in the draft in the middle of the 3rd round (in a TE heavy draft) is downright robbery. Which brings me to my next point... 4. Jerry Angelo is a complete dumbass. The trade down put the Bears in great position to come out big, and they ended up taking the 5th best available corner in Manning, a guy who plays neither offense nor defense in Hester, and a reach at a non need position on Dvoracek. 5. The Rams quietly had a great draft. 6. I nailed my Fasano at 53 pick, and couldn't have been more surprised about the selection. More interestingly, Dallas aquires a pick held by Washington. 7. The Raiders need to stop taking DBs. Period. Over the past six years, they have taken Derrick Gibson, Phillip Buchanon, Nnamdi Asomugha, Fabian Washington, and Michael Huff in the first, Stanford Routt in the 2nd, and Schwiegert in the 3rd. Gibson, Buchanon, and Asomugha will never be anything, and Routt will never be more than a nickelback. They won't improve until they address somewhere else. They did get Thomas Howard to save face. 8. How many times can you screw up if you are Buffalo. They got some decent players, but at what cost? The 2nd round? Youboty saved face, but given 4 picks in the top 74, they should come away with more than Youboty, Whitner, and McCargo. They didn't touch the offensive side. Well, I'm not keeping Willis McGahee in fantasy, thats for sure. 9. Ryan Cook was the worst pick. 10. Manny Lawson was the best pick.

the rams grabbed 5 starters now that i'm looking at it... impressive. pats also had a good "quiet" draft picking up two potential studs at skill positions.

11. The Tamba Hali selection deserves more props. 40 times for the DLine are so overrated. The Chiefs got an instictive player who is great vs the run and pass. Then they came back with Pollard? He's fine, but Ko Simpson and Darnell Bing and Pat Watkins are still there as I speak.

12. The Colts get no Line help and a RB who built a good portion of his rep at the combine. Week 7, lets get it on!

colts could trade up for matui or gilles still, both can pass block fairly well.
