The Washington Redskins will report for training camp on Wednesday, and the first practice kicks off Thursday morning.

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
Making KC battle noodle arm for the #2 is so pointless to me. Not sure what they're thinking there. I think you still need to see if KC has starter potential. You give him all the 2nd team reps and some first team reps as well.
Not sure if Smith will be ready to start over Murphy so I don't see much of a battle there. Although Murphy showed no pass rush, he probably gets the nod just cause he has a year under his belt. I think Crowder vs Roberts should be interesting. Roberts could be in trouble there. |

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
I am interested in the battles in the secondary. Johnson v Ihenacho and Breeland v Hall. Would also love to see someone push Perry Riley.

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
Corner battle and safety for sure but also I wonder how much Matt Jones will play?

I feel certain that he is going to "spaight" a couple of people on ST during preseason games.

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
While the starter's seem pretty much set, I will be watching the O-Line with great interest - both from a player perspective and coaching perspective. It will be interesting to see if some of the long-time back ups (Compton, LeRibeus) continue to hold a spot or if they are pushed out by some of the new guys (Ari K, Reiter). Also will be watching the development of Moses with interest.
After that, will curious to see who wins at the safety spot - Johnson or Ihenacho - and CB spots. I think there is going to be a lot of competition cross position battles on the back of the roster for ST spots and position battles based based on youth/ST ability (i.e. keeping an extra WR at the expense of an experienced OL, DL or S b/c of the WR's value on ST).

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
The competition at safety should be pretty good. Johnson vs. Ihenacho at SS and then the younger guys battling for one or two spots.
Can't wait to see the rookies in action, but specifically excited for Scherff, Crowder, and Mitchel. |

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
Any WR or DB who hopes to make the team as a backup this season can forget about it unless he plays ST. That may go for backup LB's and the #3 RB, as well. Keep that in mind when picking your dark horse.

Re: Top position battles to watch during training camp
So many names that we could identify here -- Lache Seastrunk being the most recent example.
I should add that I am very interested to see what happens with Martrell Spraight (sp?). I recall the quotes from the coaching staff about him falling to the Redskins, and they were giddy about it. So curious to see why.
