Taylor Jacobs
I just got the latest issue of "Sporting News" and in there NFL section they addressed why the Redskins felt no need to address there WR position.
"One reason the REDSKINS deemed in unnecessary to draft a wide receiver is the development of Taylor Jacobs, who has excellent deep speed and the physical ability to be a starter. He has been impressive in offseason workouts..." Page 41. Like many of us here apparently the coaching staff believes that this could be Jacobs break out year, hopefully it is. Just food for thought....

Re: Taylor Jacobs
I hope it is.. Gibbs knows how to find a diamond in the rough, not that Taylor Jacobs came out unheralded, but he was regarded as a bust, and Gibbs gave him a second look.

If that is a bust then Rodgers in Detroit must have ben a major wast of a draft pick...

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Sometimes, when something like "he has been injured his first 2 seasons" happens", it gets looked at in the light of a bust. I understand where you are coming from though. .... that being said, a lot of teams around the league viewed Jacobs to be a dissapointing pick by Spurrier.

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Maybe he was a dissapointing pick but we did get him in the second round. I think that his first 2 seasons are weighing heavily on him and he might feel as if he needs this year to show what he can do. Hopefully he steps up and becomes the reciever that we need...

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Jacobs has all the skills with tremendous upside. Let's hope he has a good camp and ends up our #2 with Patten playing the slot. I would like to see some 5 receiver sets with Thrash and Darnerian, send them flooding into the deep zone with Cooley as a dump off option underneath. Give him a head of steam and he could hurt some fools.

Re: Taylor Jacobs
I'm really on the Jacobs bandwagon, I think he's ready for a breakout season.
I don't think he was ever regarded as a bust, he hasn't been on the field enough to be properly evaluated, both because of injury and the numbers game. This year there should be no excuses. |

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Me too. I know it's just one highlight but in that reel that cpayne made, Jacobs LOOKED like a #1 receiver. The way he caught the ball and ran afterwards.

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Make room for me on the bandwagon too Matty.
I've been a fan of Jacobs ever since we stole him in the second round (hasn't looked like a steal yet, but give it one more year). I'm just glad that it finally looks like he's going to get a chance to prove himself this year. And as with most WRs: Third Year's a Charm. Make us proud TJ. ![]()

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Big time break-out for Jacobs in my eyes. You guys know what I'm always preaching about WRs needing three years, so I'll spare you.
But hey, this is his 3rd year! |

Re: Taylor Jacobs
Gibbs formations are based on protection, so I doubt we will ever see a 5 WR set & dump off to Cooley.
What I'm looking for is Jacobs, Patton(slot), & Moss/Mccants lined up with Cooley at H-back, Portis in the backfield, someone at TE cuz I'm still not sure who I like at that position. I'm thinking Gibbs wants to play smash-mouth football. I would think Gibbs will want to wear down the 'D' beating them up with a strong ground attack & punish them with dump offs & out pattern when the LB's bite hard on p/a. Of course this is just my opinion based on years of game film I watched of the Gibbs Era.

Re: Taylor Jacobs
I've been saying all along that I expect Jacobs to breakout this year. I really hope he does. Hopefully that can kinda ease that pain we all had when we passed on Mike Williams. Jacobs was very productive in Florida, so he can definitely play at a high level.
