Something new to bitch about

All the talk about problem Skins has me thinking that we're not heaping enough abuse on the guy that really deserves it. I just took another look at Brunell's contract. I hated this deal when it happened, and I hate it even more now.
Contract:
Current Contract: 7 years, $43.36 million, $8.6 million signing bonus.
Base Salaries: 2004: $760K; 2005: $1.5 million; 2006: $4 million; 2007: $5.2 million; 2008: $6.4 million; 2009: $7.6 million; 2010: $8.8 million.
Contract Notes: Roster bonus of $500K in 2005

I can't think of a better example of front office bungling resulting in such gross overpayment to an undeserving bum since the Deion deal. What in the world are we going to do with this guy? We can't trade him, and if we cut him we're going to be in even more cap hell. Anybody have any thoughts?

I have no idea; we have to pray for an uncapped year in 2007. Although if the cap goes away...it aint ever comin back; which I dont know if it would be good for the game. I think thats somthing we should kick around; but year this deal sucks.

Yes but if you take a look at the salary cap spreadsheet on this very site, you will see that we can release Brunell after June 1, 2006 for a minimal cap hit. Which I can only assume we will do, because that contract defines the word exorbitant.

Brunnell will be out the door so fast on June 1, 2006 that it will be almost funny, if his being here until then weren't so damn painful.

We should probaly mark that day on the calendar and have some kind of party...

I do not understand the salery cap stuff. Can someone tell me what would be the consequences if we let him go in 06 or he retired in 06?

Sorry - but since when has bitching about Brunnell (either his play or his contract) qualified as "new stuff"? I thought we had flayed that horse into puppy chow already.

Looks like if he was cut or retired after June 1 2006 he would count 1,433,000 against our 06 cap and 4,300,000 aganist our 07 cap.

Totally agree. Let's talk about something more relevant...like, was it really Spurrier's fault?

i just dont like it when players like smoot are laughed at for asking for 3 million more that hurt team unity. you want playes to have team unity but you cant pay smoot because of brunnell? that makes arrington say i want my money they paying this bum but cant pay me? that makes sean taylor say man i got screwed its reasonlable to ask for an adjustment look at brunnell? that makes moss say man, i dont know if i can trust these guys so its all business first then i play your team man part. i can understand that. brunnell is a cancer to the team.

Re: Something new to bitch about

Is it at all feasible to ask Brunnell to take a pay cut him being a good morality guy and all take a paycut he can still be the highest paid backup QB in the league but take a paycut for the team. take one for the team prove you are a team guy you know in your heart you dont deserve your contract what would billy graham do?

Re: Something new to bitch about

I don't think he can do any more than he has becasue he cannot restructure a signing bonus .

The only thing that will benifit from a capless year are the money teams, like us, Dallas and NE etc. In one way it could bring back the great clashes of the dynasty teams and meen there will be less flawed teams getting to the playoffs .

But it could meen the end of poorer teams like the Colts ...

So are we the Washington Colts or the Washington Redskins?

Bring on the uncapped year!

I hate to say but this is not a Brunnell problem. This is just one of the ramifications of all the money that Danny Boy spent for any player he wanted even if they did not deserve the contract they received. Now all of our players expect larger contracts. To bring in an older QB without seeing him do some drills was plan stupid. Then to give him that kind of money makes the situation even worse. Now we have 99% of our players making substantially less money than him and are now better players. If he had been on the team as his skills deminished that would be one thing but he was hired and payed big bucks with litttle to offer. These things will work themselves out but it will take few years and we have to show restrant in our future dealings as we have done this offseason.
