Should We Go After These DEs?
There are a couple of young defensive ends out there who might be worth a look in free agency
Reggie Hayward Marques Douglas I think Douglas is an overachiever who really works hard but I don't know how much natural ability he has. Hayward, on the other hand, looks like he could be on the cusp of greatness but he could command a big contract What do you all think?

margues douglass has played only as a 3-4 DE i believe, so i dont know what the learning curve would be. i think hes more of a run stopper. hayward is more the natty pass rusher. either would be upgrades tho

If we cut Renaldo Wynn, I think that would certainly free up the cash to pursue a guy like Hayward who is younger and has more pass rush ability.

Thanks Smootsmack,
I didn't even know about Hayward or those kind of numbers. He's gotta be someone on our radar. |

WOW. I'm impressed by Haywards #'s and if you told me his name I Wouldnt even have known who he was. Look at a guy we just signed in Marcus Washington, a guy getting better and right on the brink and he exploded. If this guy isnt off the charts for money, I'd say get Redskins-One to Denver.

I wish we could land C. Grant from NO. He's such a beast - I personally would rather restructure Wynn and keep him around. He plays solid. He's not the best pass rusher, but he plays the run very well. Always solid.

Hayward is pretty nasty....I remember watching him a few times this year and I really liked the way he played. Hopefully Mr. Snyder got to get a look at him during this season.

I agree with Daseal on Wynn. I'd like to see him back next year. He's a solid player and he's coming off his best season as a Skin.

Wynn is versatile because he can play both tackle and end...he's the type of guy Gregg Williams and Joe Gibbs loves, he works hard and gives his all...
go after them depends on what you do with Round 1 pick...there are a slew up decent Ends in this year's draft...

I hate to be on an island to disagree, but...
Renaldo Wynn is "OK"... but Renaldo Wynn doesn't make an "OK" players money. He is one of the most overpaid players in the league right now if you ask me... at the very least, he is one of our top 3-4 most overpaid Redskins (see Brunell, Samuels). look at his numbers * In 8 NFL seasons, he has 21 sacks with a career high of 5 in 2001. * His 3 seasons with the 'Skins .. 2.5 sacks, 2 sacks, 3 sacks. 41 tackles, 29 tackles, 37 tackles * He is slightly above average against the run, but this is only because he CANNOT drive past a tackle to get penetration... which leaves him near a running lane on most plays. here's the kicker... it makes SOOOO much sense financially to cut him. His salary... he was the 2nd highest paid Redskin in 2004 at age 30! ($2 MIL) he will be the 2nd highest paid Redskin in 2005 at age 31! ($3.5 MIL) he will be the 2nd highest paid Redskin in 2006 at age 32! ($3.5 MIL) he will be the 5th highest paid Redskin in 2007 at age 33! ($4 MIL) His Bonus Money Cap Hits are only $583,000 in 2005, 2006, 2007 sooooo the way I figure (my math might not be very good but) his bonus money would be accelerated and hit this year's cap at a total of $1.75 MIL... and his salary we would be saved from paying is $3.5 MIL, leaving us with, yep, $1.75 MIL in cap sapce!!! That's a GOOD amount of space opened up... enough money to help sign a Reggie Heyward who is 5 years younger and had 10.5 sacks last year (that is exactly HALF the number Wynn has in his entire career!!!). Sorry guys, but I just have never been a fan of Renaldo Wynn ever since I started watching our cap space!! :P

Hail to the Redskins - that's why, in order to keep him, a restructure is in place. If he doesn't restructure, cut him. I assure you, both Wynn and his agent are well aware that the Redskins can and will cut him if he doesn't restructure because it doesn't give them much dead space. If we can sign him to a reasonable contract, he plays more than well enough for me. Greg Williams brings the blitz - having a DL that can tie up most of the O line to open up Blitzers is important. I'd like to see Wynn stay, I think he's solid and is sure as hell better than any rookie we'll pick up. In order for him to stay, a restructure is a MUST.

I don't think anyone wants Wynn with his current deal. Daseal is right, he either restuctures or he'll be gone.
