Stop The Madness!!!

whats with all this talk about replacing smoot?

if you williams wants him gone, then obviously he feels there are guys on the team that can take his place.

i doesnt make sense to let smoot leave, then sign another guy for similar money that is older, not as good or cost us a first round draft pick.

if smoot goes and then we draft rolle. we are basicly using a first round draft pick so that we can save 5 million in a signing bonus, while our other draft needs are pushed aside.

what should happen if smoot leaves: harris is promoted to #2 corner. JIMOH is our 3rd string CB. we will probably bring in a veteren corner at the veteren minimum.

sign him or not, thats up to the team, i understand if they dont want to get into another large contract.
but it makes no sense to bring in a lesser player for near the same money.

whats the point of complaining about bringing in highprice freeagents if we dont keep our draft picks around?

letting smoot go just to bring in woodson, surtain, madison rolle or any other top corner is idiotic. woodson is injury prone and wants more money than champ, surtain is solid but makes alot of money, madison is old and highpriced, rolle is a rookie and you dont know if he can hold up and he will get top dollar.

smoot has been underpaid since day one. he has never complained about his salary. keep the guy, he is worth it.

sorry for my incoherent rant.

I agree, I don't think its worth us signing someone else to replace Smoot. I believe what the Redskins will do is simply put Harris into the starting CB position.

The offseason is just starting for the Skins. We still have 2 months before Free Agency. If Smoot wants to be a Redskin, I'm sure he will be a rich one. That is up to him now.

I know I will be pretty pissed off. If we loose Bailey then Smoot back to back! :confused-

Like I said in another post, something is telling me Smoot will be back. I hope that in the back of his mind that he knows that 2-3 million EXTRA in a signing bonus is worth giving up to play for the team the he apparently loves.

I know everyone is saying that the REDSKINS need to poney up that money, but I mean they can only pay so much. It's not like Snyder doesn't have or wouldn't pay him and the rest of the players a zillion dollars to keep them around.

If he is truly a team player, he'll realize that the team has other needs and that he's going to have to compromise.

The team is able to pay all their FA gobloads, shouldn't a dedicated skin get his? I love Smoot, and I want him around, but 2-3 million dollars is a big difference. I hope we see him back one way or another.

If Snyder can work something out, I feel like he should get it. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it BUT I am saying that even if the Redskins were to say "Fred, we seriously cannot go a penny more without putting into jeopardy our other priorities."

I know that sounds very selfish on the Redskins side, but he says he is a team player and a team player would acknowledge that and respect that for the good of the team.

But if they DO have the resources (and God knows they do) then go ahead and pay the bills.

I wouldn't say Smoot is defiently gone just yet, He will have to get an offer probably much better than the one we have offered and I don't believe he will get it, if he does leave I think it will be because the coaches believe they can replace him with player's already on the roster, Wild's I am not sure about but apparently William's believes the kid can start, I also liked Rufus Brown he was very impresive in the pre-season I believe we are fine if Smoot leaves, but it's a shame that we can't give him more and dump a ton of salary into player's like Lavar and Brunnell between the 3 Smoot is the only one deserving of a big contract.

With free agency, you can't get too attached to having a player be on your team. Smoot's received a very fair offer. You can get to a point where keeping a player means you are prostrating yourself, and signing him out of the fear of what will happen if you don't.

If Smoot demands a salary that will hurt the team, then in my book you shake his hand and wish him well. We have got other talented players already on our team. There is no need to turn around and draft another cornerback in the first round or even necessarily in any round if Smoot leaves, as I see it.

I think the Skins need to restructure Samuels first before they have a good idea of just how much they can spend on anyone. They did already make a good offer and maybe with more cap room from Samuels restructuring they will meet somewhere in the middle. Smoots current demands are unrealistic though. He wants Baileys contract which is rediculous...

This is clearly a situation that could become "Bailey" ugly over the next two months. Smoot is a "Redskin Guy" and I think they will try to get it done within reason.

Amen. Even though I'd love to see him stay and show us that he IS a core player.

If I was smoot or anyother player of his caliper and have seen all the money Dan has thrown at FA I would have a hard time settling for less. Dan has dug himself into a hugh hole with the high paid contracts for FA that have contributed very little to the teams success while smoot has worked his butt off for little money. I like Dan as an owner but I feel he has learned very little with how and whom he spends his money. A good example is our deer friend Brunell while we did not know he would perform so poorly we did not need to spend the amount of money and draft pick to obtain him. Smoot is not a gamble and we know what we are getting for our money so sign him to a fair contract and move on.

Here's something ironic. Last year we traded Champ Bailey to the Broncos. The Rocky Mountain News is now suggesting that the Broncos target Fred Smoot as one of their free-agency acquisitions this year.
