HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
You may not know it now,but you will...I'm a numbers freak! lol
![]() A statistician if you will. They may mean nothing or they mean everything, but regardless of importance..I love to crunch the numbers for comparisons. What I decided to do,is crunch the numbers for these meaningless preseason games and compare last seasons (preseason) 4-12 season of abortion to our current progress at the present time now. You might be stunned at the differences. (or maybe not..lol) 2009 ------------------------ Preseason game 1: Baltimore Ravens We lost 23-0 http://http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter...-post-boxscore As you will notice,we allowed 399 net yards passing & 101 net yards rushing for the game. We had 140 net yards passing and 56 net yards rushing. So they had 500 net total yards to our 196 net yards. They had 21 1st downs to our 11 1st downs They had 7/18 or 38% Third Down Efficiency We had 1/11 or 9% Third Down Efficiency 2010 --------------------- Against the Bills? We won 42-17 http://http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter...-post-boxscore They had 147 net yards passing & 146 net yards rushing We had 212 net yards passing & 140 net yards rushing So they had 293 net total yards to our 352 net total yards They had 15 1st downs to our 24 1st downs They had 1/10 or 10% Third Down Efficiency We had 12/19 or 63% Third Down Efficiency Summary: we obviously looked better from 1 season ago at 1st game. I could have done more with stats on sacks, turnovers or whatever..but I just wanted to give you a taste of how much improved, discipline or however you want to look at it. Anyways,I left links to these,so you can do any research and compare for yourselves if you wish. Lets look at the 2nd preseason games in comparison from both season? 2009 ----------------------------- Preseason game 2 We won 17-13 http://http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter...-post-boxscore Steelers had 139 net yards passing & 99 net yards rushing We had 137 net yards passing & 167 net yards rushing So they had 238 net total yards to our 304 net total yards They had 13 1st downs to our 20 1st downs They had 7/13 or 43% Third Down Efficiency We had 9/18 or 50% Third Down Efficiency 2010 -------------------- Against the Ravens? We lost 23-3 http://http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter...-post-boxscore Ravens had 253 net yards passing & 143 net yards rushing We had 365 net yards passing & 25 net yards rushing So they had 396 net total yards to our 390 net total yards They had 23 1st downs to our 20 1st downs They had 1/10 or 10% Third Down Efficiency We had 4/13 or 30% Third Down Efficiency Summary: This loss can easily be directed towards our 2 lost fumbles....our 2 INT's...and our red Red Zone Efficiency which was 0/3. However, although we did not play very well,we still managed to force 4 fumbles and we did well on defense against them on 3rd down only allowing 1/10 tries. What hurt us the most was probably the 8 for 58 yards in penalties and the inability to score the TD's in the redzone and the missed FG. But overall....We played with these guys even though...we did not run the ball well. It's nice to be able to rely on the passing game when you just can't find any running lanes. You can check the patriots preseason game if you wish..I just wanted to give you guys a breakdown on a few things... 3 things you'll notice from just looking at what I have above.. 1st)Our pass defense has greatly improved from last season from just preseason. 2nd)Our Third Down Efficiency is a whole lot better. 3rd) and what i don't have listed, which should be obvious is our caused turnovers which haslet has promised. We sure had a bunch against the jets. But the BIG ONE..is this one folks... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mcnabb was 5/8 for 58 yards a 1 TD in the 1st game. Grossman was 11/18 140 yards and 2 TD's in the 1st game J.Beck 2/7 for 27 yards Mcnabb was 11/26 206 yards and 1 INT in 2nd game Grossman was 14/21 for 196 yards and 1 INT Against jets? Grossman was 8/16 for 111 yards Beck was 7/11 for 76 yards Bartel 3/5 for 44 yards and 1 TD So in total... --------------------------------------- Mcnabb has been 16/34 for 264 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT Grossman has been 33/55 for 447 yards with 2 TD's and 1 INT Beck has been 9/16 for 103 yards Bartel 3/5 for 44 yards and 1 TD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 858 total passing yards with 1 game still remaining. Jason Campbell ---------------------------------------------------------------- 3/6 for 38 yards (game 1) 1/7 for 10 yards (game 2) 13/22 for 209 yards (game 3) 4/6 for 33 yards (game 4) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21/41 for 290 yards with 0 TD's and 0 INT's It was scary, when I saw these numbers... Thank you Shanny! HTTR

In summary, we are worse than last year because we have Rex Grossman, BUT we are better than last year because we have Rex Grossman!

Good to have GTripp light on the site. It's all about drinkability.

I also remember that Zorn pretty much "gave up" in the Pats game.

If there's been one recurring pattern about Redskins exhibition seasons of late, it's that when we look good (Osaka) it doesn't mean much. But if we look bad, we'll probably be bad in the regular season.

^^ seriously, these numbers really don't mean jack-s***. It's preseason so the level of play is completely different. Teams can look great in the preseason and suck and vice versa.

Exactly. A massive WHO CARES. The Colts have lost 22 of their last 26 preseason games. And all they do is win 12+ every year. Steve Spurrier kicked major preseason ass. Meaningless.

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
Doesn't mean squat, like a few people in other threads have said Spurrier was 4-0 in preseason, that was enough for folks to figure out how to defend the Fun n Gun. Also your comparison of JC and the guys from this season is bunk. JC wasn't in any of the games long enough to really produce, while this preseason is more pass happy than others in recent memory. Also, why don't you do a comparison about the running game? Again that would be worthless since we are not running as often it seems this preseason, so ther fact that we have sucked at rushing so far is also a moot point. Bottom line is you can't compare the two years as there are too many different variables to take into account from 2009 to now.

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
Stats mean jack in preseason.
Your better off looking at the games themselves.... Look at the QB position and how there is better decision making. Look at the WR's and how they are getting seperation at the line of scrimmage, how they throw off the defender now with suttle moves for which Hixon failed to teach. The defense which was touted by both G.Williams and Blache to be a blitzing machine and ball hawking scheme, yet failed to get a good blitz and failed to create turnovers. I was very against Haslett with the understanding that his Rams and Saints sucked at defense. Hopefully I'm wrong and the defense continues to shine. |

Exactly my sentiments. We don't look bad at all, but there is room for improvement come Sept12th. Many bright spots with individual perfromances, as well as unit performances, but our run D is lacking, and our run O looks dreadful. I know we have played the top Ds for the past 2 games, but still, you have to break some for more than a yard or two gain. |

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
Chill out guys, all he is saying is there is a difference this year so far. Pre season isn't important but the effort of this team is. We have a new attitude going in to this season. Were tired of being the underdog in this division. In 2 weeks we will see a new era of solid football. No more laughing stock bull shit

Re: HUGE difference from 2009 preseason to 2010 present!
^^ Agreed Skins. This team is much improved over what it looked like last year.
Also to all those who say preseason doesn't matter in terms of wins and loses that is true, but at the same time like some one else said, if we look bad in the preseason we most likely carry that over to the regualar season where it does count. We do have a passing attack this year. The running game is up in the air but I will wait to determine how this is going to be come the regular season. The Offensive line is holding up well in pass protection, preseason or not a hat on a hat blocking is nice to see. I like the thread, but maybe not all the stats as most of us have seen them, but this does bring up a good topic to discuss.
