Malcom Kelly speaks...
In an interview with Rich Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News, Malcom Kelly had this to say about his coming out of OU after his junior year:
"I'm a better player now by leaps and bounds," Kelly said. "I'm doing so many different things. This offense uses me to my abilities. I have a much wider range of routes, and the older guys have taught me the better techniques. I'm running a lot more short routes now, a lot more double moves. They run me across the field. "In college, I just ran a lot of deep routes. But with the techniques I've picked up, I've learned how to set a guy up. Those are things only the older guys can teach you." Sounds great. But unless I've counted wrong, he's only been in 4 games this year and has caught 3 passes for a total of 18 yards. If indeed "this offense uses me to my abilities" as he said, that is not good news for Redskins fans.

Re: Malcom Kelly speaks...
Kelly has had a disastrous rookie season because of injuries but he continues to strike me as a hardworker who gets it. While I don't expect him to be a gamechanging playmaker like Moss it would not surprise me at all to see him make a major impact next year as an in-traffic receiver.
Anyway, I'm sure a lot of receivers in his situation would be pouting and carrying on about how they are being under-utilized. Kelly seems to be relishing the opportunity to learn behind the scenes. If the point of this thread is to bash him for claiming to have gotten better under NFL coaching, well, I don't really see the point in that. |

It's sickening to watch the deep pass go right through his hands and hit him in the chest.

LOL 3 passes.....He has simple goals. Maybe the guys should show Smoot what to expect when he gets set up first drive of the game or maybe on 3rd downs.

Re: Malcom Kelly speaks...
Thomas and Kelly need to be on the field now. This WC passing game featuring short quick slants needs bigger WR's and ARE is a slower version of Moss and Thrash's hands and speed are gone from playing ST's.
They need more plays to get more looks in ordre to make more of an impact. Throwing to each once or twice a game is not going to cut it. |

Re: Malcom Kelly speaks...
In a sense I find the article positive because Kelly is speaking in a positive fashion across the board i.e. his attitude seems to be in line. Why then has he struggled to be effective on the field (I understand the injuries but I'm talking about when he plays)? Considering that both WR rooks struggle enormously to run precise routes and get open, and to boot that even our vets struggle off and on to get open, I keep concluding that Stan Hixon is doing a poor job w/ these guys. Dropped passes, poor route running, and the list goes on...

Thank You! I have preached the dump Stan Hixon for 2 years now and finally I see someone thinking the way I am. Everytime I mentioned getting rid of him people seemed to ignore my posts. lol. I'm sure he was an expert at the college level but no different then Spurrier he has not been able to carry it over to the NFL. Why he is even on the team still baffles me. I hope they get a genuine NFL WR coach next year. Someone who will coach seperation and route running at the NFL level. |

Our Passing Offense is like a full moon, only a FEW times each year. I'm starting to think the only time we do establish a passing attack is b/c the other teams Def. Cordinator simply didn't expect us to be smart enough to make the call. I am not impressed with this years lack of concentration with our receivers. We need WR's for this Zorn Coast offense. We need need 1-2 more athletic run/pass blockers for the OLine, then, Campbell should have the cast that he needs.

Or are the fans watching from the stands and TV 3 hours on Sundays just so much more aware of what's going on 24/7 behind the scenes at Redskins Park? |

Re: Malcom Kelly speaks...
I think everyone including Ray Charles can see the job isn't getting done. It doesn't matter where you get your perspective... if you look at the product on the field we haven't had good wideout production (with the exception of moss) in a long time.
