Question for all Men with Children

I have heard on multiple occasions that a man cannot be truly compassionate and understanding and thoughtful until he has a child and I was wondering if you all think this is true???

Well, I don't have any kids, don't want any, and I'm none of those things. So there you go.

Meh. Speaking of children, though, 70Chip III aka "rock chalk jay hawk" will have picked the NCAA champion 2 straight years if Michigan State wins. Bow before the superior fruit of my loins! My swimmers rule, baby!

You are who you are, EQ. Having a kid may bring out your compassionate side but it was always there if it ever was. I'm still a jerk and I got two kids.

Re: Question for all Men with Children

I think having kids will open up your emotions to some degree, I have 3 daughters and 2 of them are teens. It seems like compassion is less now, more anger sometimes and I understand more now that when your house is full of women the garage is a great place to hang out

Seems to me if having a baby is what it takes you to be truly Compassionate and Understanding and Thoughtful (CUT) then you're first class dirtbag. Anybody that thinks the got a CUT achievement point over you because they have kids also think you're relatively a worthless piece of shit.

p.s. Pampers Swaddlers Value Pack is on sale for $41.99 $41.99.

Re: Question for all Men with Children

EQ - my advice would be to take some of 724's answer and mix it with msm's and saden's and you'll get a consensus of how things should be. Your life experience and decisions make you who you are. Having children might open your eyes to some things you might have forgotten or never saw, but it shouldn't change the fact that any rational human being has compassion and is understanding and thoughtful to some degree.

I have 2 daughters, and all they've done is help me prioritize my life better. I still have the same compassion, understanding and thoughtfulness I've always had.

@msm - yeah, my girls are still a bit young (18 months and 3 months), but by the time they are teenagers, I'm getting a bachelor pad (within the house or otherwise)...

Re: Question for all Men with Children

This is kind of a bizarre question. A few comments:

1) Having kids shouldn't change who you are at your core. You may become a softy around your kids, but I can't think of any reason why it would change how you would act elsewhere, say at work.

2) Is being kind and compassionate always a good thing? You can't let emotions like that get in the way of making necessary decisions, I'll say that much.

3) Being "thoughtful and understanding" are qualities that people find likeable. But is it always necessary for people to like you?

4) As it pertains to how you behave around children, you always want to show them that you love them and care about them. But if they chase a baseball out into the street when a car is coming, that is NOT the time to show compassion and understanding. That is time to lay down the mother effing law.

Sometimes being an asshole is for everyone's own good. Seriously. Have the confidence to understand when the time is right to tell it like it is, and to understand when to show that compassionate side.

Re: Question for all Men with Children

I think that the opposite is true. Having children has turned me into a grouchy asshole.

In all seriousness I can still be a heartless SOB in several circumstances. There are some instances regarding children in which I have gotten a little "soft" and do tend to show a little more compassion. It all depends on the individual though. Not everyone is going to turn into a softie because they have children. Just because you do not have children does not mean that you do not have compassion. In reality having children may make you a more compassionate person, but it is not the sole determining factor.

With all of that being said F U Quake.
