First off I never said he's bad. I said he's not nearly as effective without RG3. Lets put our thinking caps on here. If a RB runs between the tackles and the QB runs outside the tackles, thats a wide area to cover, and becomes extremely hard for a defense to defend.
But if you take away one of those guys, the other guy that is playing becomes less effective, because the defense only has to defend one area instead of two areas.
Shanahan knew that if he kept running it with Morris that eventually it was going to be stopped and ineffective and just a hobbled QB throwing inaccurate passes.
Should he have tried it? Sure so that there weren't people saying "Why didn't you run it with Morris?" But it would not have been all that affective. Thats a guarantee. Listen to ESPN and NFLN and hear them tell you all about how Morris is good in large part because Griffin posses that other running threat defenses have to defend.
Think of RG3 as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as Alfred Morris. Scottie Pippen wasn't anything special without MJ, but with MJ he was great and one of the best players in the league. I'm trying to dummy this scenario down as good as I can for you so that you can understand football better by using other sport examples.
