The concept is the same. If money is what he wants, he gets it by busting his ass so that his next contract - whether it be a one year franchise tender or a big signing bonus UFA contract - to pay him the money he believes he deserves.

Perfectly said. You look at the Eagles FA signings, the players did play well enough prior to FA to get a fat contract. Asomugha played on some baaad teams. But he still performed well enough to get a big payday. Cullen Jenkins was a beast for the Packers, and so on. Hell, even Albert Haynesworth played like a monster during his contract years.
