This is exactly how i feel. You cant take Sonny and especially Sam as serious color guys.
Redskins Nation is probably the worst Redskins show out there, but i think Larry Micheals is a damn fine play by play guy. I think hes one of the best in radio when it comes to calling a game and painting a picture of what’s happening. I dont mind Sam and Sonny (and even like their antics) but you have to take it for what it is. They are funny and entertaining, not serious and insightful.
Monday night football is a good comparison to Larry, Sonny and Sam. I thought Denis Miller was horrible. I thought Tony Kornhizer was somehow even worse. And I didn’t think either of them knew much about football, but some people think they are entertaining and funny and that’s why ESPN decided that 2 people talking wasn’t enough and put them in the booth.
Currently I think Jaws is okay and I kind of like Gurdon, but they can both be pretty damn annoying at times. I see Sonny and Sam the same way but rarely if ever annoying. Sonny can lay some insightful stuff every now and then. Sam is pretty crazy (senile) but will usually make you laugh a few times each game (normally at his expense). But best of all neither of them talk too much (unlike Miller, Kornhizer, Jaws, and Gurdon). Either way both Larry Micheals and Mike Tirico do a great job of putting up with their color guys for 4 hours each Sunday/Monday while calling a damn fine game.
I just don’t get people who try and take Sam and Sonny serious, it would be like critiquing Tony Kornhizer for going off topic and making jokes; that’s whats he’s there to do.
