Shanahan has always had a great running team but I wouldn't call it hard nosed smash mouth football. It's more of a finess style of offense.

I tend to think Shanny's running scheme fits the WCO offense better, though this is just speculation. For as long as I can remember our running game worked best when we had real bruising insiders i.e. when Dock and Thomas were in their prime at each G spot. Meanwhile our WR corp wasn't dominant enough to keep the defense from just throwing 8 guys in the box most plays. Shanny's run scheme always seemed to thrive of misdirection so throwing 8 guys in the box doesn't have the same potency. Meanwhile his scheme has always made the WR corp better which takes pressure off the run game.
With Shanahan, assuming he's here to win not just collect one final payday, I think our offense is just a couple good lineman away from consistent production. I hope we maintain a strong defensive unit to compliment it.
