Same as when we drafted RAK, i was thinking this is a guy who can come in and start from day one and give us a presence off the edge on every play. Haynesworth is the same, yeah we overpaid but he has made an impact in the games thusfar, ask Carter if he supports that move as he is reaping the benefits of the double teams Big Al draws from opposing olines. if DT,MK and Davis were playing up to their potential and we were scoring 25+ a game this wouldnt be an issue. they were all highly rated on many draft boards at the time of the draft and most of us welcomed the youth movement at the skill positions as ARE clearly is not carrying his load and Moss is inconsistant. so yeah its easy to complain now but noone saw us starting out like this.
I still don't have a problem with drafting Orakpo. Most importantly, he was drafted -- not traded for. Secondly, I'm a big advocate of drafting for value -- not necessarily need (not always the best thing, but usually IMO). If Orakpo was the best person on the board, and represented the greatest value to us, draft him -- even if there are bigger needs.

Taylor is completely different IMO, because we traded a 2nd rounder for him. A 2nd rounder, in all likelihood, would at least become a decent backup for maybe 10 years. That's a lot of value. Taylor could have lit it up for us, but not for more than 1 or 2 years realistically. That's terrible value in comparison.

Haynesworth lies somewhere in the middle of these two situations, IMO. We didn't give up a draft pick, which is really good, but we are restricted in other areas (mostly depth still) due to his large contract. He has made the whole DL better, which is worth something. But, is it worth $100? I don't know, you could probably get 5 average players for that. As it is now, we have 1 good one, and 4 below average (not necessarily on the DL, but wherever we had to skimp to fit in the cap -- i.e.: depth).
