Re: Gray, Smith likely interim coach choices

Logic would say that Smith or Gray should be candidates until seasons end. But.....

Gray is a defensive coach and the defense is doing rather well right now. Smith is an offensive coach has only coached at the college level prior to here. Plus some say he does not know Zorn's offense well enough to call plays.

If a change is made logically it would be made at the break except for the fact that after the Detroit game DS ran/flew to Denver to speak with Shanahan. Reports were he was pissed off that we lost. If this is even remotely true then the best candidate to relieve Zorn would be a WCO guru who also studied under Holmgren. Which is why I think Gruden is DS's main choice. He's hoping that there will not be much of a scheme change and that the system can be tweeked enough to start winning games. Holmgren would be a good choice as well.

I know the NFC East has to be a major want on any Coach's wish list due to it being so hard but if I were Gruden I would also tell DS I would take the job so long as Cerrato is gone. Force DS to change up the front office as it should be or have fun trying to pick up any decent HC. Let him realize no one wants to work with Cerrato and no one wants him meddling with what they are trying to accomplish.
