Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Don't want to open a can of worms any further, so let's just consider this post "read-only".
First:
The whole argument about somebody being one dimensional is useless. Damn near everyone on the team is one dimensional: JC, most linemen, the WRs, punter, kicker, deep snapper, Clinton Portis, etc, etc. Rock Cartright is one of the few players we have that is *not* one dimensional -- he plays several positions, and I don't care if they're all on ST. Special teams is *very* important. Add to that the fact that he's pretty good at the positions he plays and that makes him a valuable player.
Second:
We can't just put anyone on ST -- the injury risk is too high. Moss returning punts would be great, until he gets injured. Then our passing game falls apart, and with that so does our offense. Our season would basically be over. Believe it.
Third:
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rock was overlooked as a RB injury replacement *because* of his value on ST. Bottom line is: Rock plays special teams. That is his position on this team, and he does it well. Sure he's not a world-beater, but he's above average. Let's not get greedy.
