Re: Questions that might effect the DRAFT
Hey what's goin' on all...
This is part of how i feel about this draft...we need OL. We need them more than DL b/c as stated above, DL are either 1st round busts, or take over a year to develop. (even Mario Williams didn't start clicking till end of rookie season), and most 1st round OL have been successfull in the past few years....remember a couple years ago when the Jets drafted C Magnold and OT Brunswick in the first round and started that year, and won like 10 games? Browns and Joe Thomas? Miami and Jake Long? Denver's Ryan Clady (a rookie) only gave up .5 sacks as a starter this year! 1st round OL have the HIGHEST probability of starting and making an impact as a rookie.
As for not trading down and keeping our #13 pick, in the 3rd round C Eric Wood from Louisville - All Big East 1st team should be sitting there and #4 ranked C, G Anthony Parker from Tennessee - All SEC 2nd team should be there, but was arrested for disorderly conduct last year, maybe G Andy Levitre from Oregon State - All American 1st team #4 ranked G, G Trevor Canfield from Cincinatti, #3 ranked G....LOTS of interior lineman will be available in the middle of the 3rd round, plus at least another G as a 3rd round projection.
We should either take OT Jason Smith at #13 and draft the best available interior lineman in 3rd ORRRR we could trade down for a low 1st, 3rd, and maybe a 4th or 5th, draft OLB/DT (depending on FA) in 1st, then 2 interior lineman in 3rd, and use the rest for depth at LB/CB/RB ORRRR pick up the best OT wit low 1st, interior OL wit 3rd and possibly OLB Gerald McRath from Southern Miss - 1st team All Conference USA and had 386 tackles over 3 seasons. He can play both OLB or MLB...all he needs to do is bulk up, he's only 220 lbs.
As for all y'all that have ur o-line starting line-up predictions, y'all really aren't solving the problem b/c all i see are old head shuffled around. Kendall is a FA and he might be signed to a 1 year deal, or they could just let him go and let Rinehart take over the starting position. Jansen will be around next year, we can't afford to let go of too many people that are still under contract (we should let go of Shawn Springs b/c he'd only cost us $2 million instead of $8 million if we keep him). I think we should trade down, pick up either one of the available OTs or C/OG Alex Mack from Cal or C/OG Max Unger. Then with our 2 third round picks pick up 2 interior lineman (names stated above) or a OG/C and that OLB McRath to add depth behind Washington.
Starting OL LT-Samuels LG-Rinehart C-Rabach RG-Thomas RT-Heyer...possibly one of the rookies taking over for Rabach or Thomas....with Jansen and rookies spelling Samuels, Rabach, and Thomas starting 4 or 5 games into the season so hopefully they'll still be healthy in december, then taking over for the old heads once their contracts are up.
