I work with his daughter. Lucky me!
I thought Powell was an absolute lock to be either the Presidential or VP nominee both in 1996 and in 2000.
But what you wrote about Powell, many said about McCain just a year ago. Unfortunately those of us who are moderate Republicans are being gradually pushed away from our party and I thought that maybe a relatively moderate Republican like McCain would remind people such as myself that we are important to the the party and should feel welcomed.
Instead he appealed to the far right by selecting Sarah Palin to be his VP. And it's not the selection of Palin specifically that bothers me, it's that I feel McCain caved and did what he didn't want to do. If I'm not confident he can stand up to his own party even at his own expense, how can I know he'll do it across party lines? Across international lines?
Or is it safe to say "well he's done it before, why can't he do it again?" Well he's not doing it during the most important months of his career. And that's really disapponting to me.
I think it's disappointing to Powell to and I hope that his words and a possible loss in two weeks will serve as a wake up call to the GOP so that in 2012 I can vote again for the Republican candidate...Rell/Schwarzenegger 2012!!!
