Note the word "should". There's no law which requires citizens to do anything during the anthem or the pledge of allegiance. Quakers and others have religous doctorines which do not allow them to swear allegiance to governments or countries or to 'respect' idols of any kind.
That's the way it should be. When the police or any government agency can haul you away because you don't salute der fuhrer or stand to respect the flag of the motherland or fatherland, then this country has truly reached a sorry state.
