This the exact reason I support massive directed tax breaks for oil companies to not only encourage them to develop alternate fuels but basically make it stupid for them not to do so.
I am talking about tax breaks specifically directed at alternate fuels. Like a dollar for dollar profit tax for every unit of alternate fuel sold for the next 20 years. Make it so developing alternate fuels and forcing them onto Car companies they only way to stay competitive. Over a long period this would hopefully drive out oil.
But something like this would get no traction because giving oil companies tax breaks is bad politics but it would accelerate our movement from oil exponentially.
