Why don't you give some examples from the past few years of us overpaying for someone over 30 years old?
Because (granted this is off the top of my head) as best as I can recall Griffin, Springs, Washington, Moss, Portis, Smoot, Lloyd, Randle El, Rabach, Archuleta, Duckett were all under 30 (some close to, but still under) when we signed or traded for them. True some didn't work out, but they weren't "over the hill"
So that leaves who? London Fletcher-well worth the money, Todd Collins-didn't overpay and he certainly stepped up last year. Todd Wade-didn't overpay. Pete Kendall-I guess we could go either way on that one. Mark Brunell-I don't want to get into another debate over him.
So it seems to me, unless I'm really missing a lot, that the notion that we've spent the last several years overpaying for over the hill players is a bit overblown.
