Re: Gibbs hinted that Springs is hiding an injury
Whether Springs is bitter about he contract dispute or was taking a STAB at the coaches or not, I think it is safe to say that Gibbs is not one to let the size of ones contract or there unwillingness to take a paycut affect the way he coaches his team.
It is possible, however, that Springs' attitude toward the coaching staff has had an effect on his playing time, whether it is directly related, or he is just not performing well in practice as a result.
I have to assume that the blame should fall on Springs for any such controversy. The NFL is a business and if you cannot separate contract dealings from gameplay then you are not being a professional.
It seems to me that Gibbs was being honest when he said the decision was based off what they had seen in practice, and that Springs WILL start at some point this season.
If those comments were truly made by Springs, I think it was way of base and misguided. He was probably just frustrated that he didn't start, and rather then take the responsibility on himself he placed it elsewhere. BAD MOVE
Certainly this is all speculation, but I think it is more likely then some FO conspiracy against good players, manifested within the coaches decisions.
