Joseph White, of The Associated Press, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/37/nfl"> Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has decided to change the policy he has used for a long time. Gibbs made all of the team activities and practices voluntary until the mandatory minicamp in June. Gibbs said he would try anything to get an improvement from the 5-11 record in 2006. Some of the players who took advantage of the time off include RB Clinton Portis, FS Sean Taylor, WR Santana Moss and WR Brandon Lloyd.
No need to be making it into a big drama when the boss says its ok.

Gibbs said it was okay for players to work out away from Redskins park in March and April, not miss OTAs. I clipped this from an article in the
Post yesterday:
Organized Team Activity
The Redskins will begin their first "Organized Team Activity" practices tomorrow, and will conduct weekly sessions culminating with a minicamp June 15-17. The OTAs are technically voluntary, but the team places a premium on them and after Gibbs allowed veterans to work out away from Redskins Park in March and April, the implicit expectation is that everyone will participate.

So I would say Taylor's absence is pretty significant.
