Yeah I think trading him is a good possibility. Not a lock by any means, but certainly possible.

First, in terms of the cap, keeping Springs on the roster in 2007 would cost us the same amount of cap space as cutting or trading him would. So we could unload him and barely burn any of our approximately $5 million in remaining space. The cap will not prohibit a trade.

But maybe the 'Skins are thinking we need Macklin as insurance. GW probably wants all the cover options he can get his hands on after last year's debacle. We have no idea what Prioleau is going to look like coming back off his knee injury, and GW has previously counted on him as a cover guy. Signing Macklin as a nickel CB could be a strong sign that we want Springs to move to safety.

Either way, it adds depth and flexibility. More guys on the roster who can cover, whether they're playing safety or corner. Maybe enough cover guys to feel comfortable trading Springs. Who knows.
