yeah i just walked across the street to the times square Toys R Us on my lunch break and picked up a Wii the day after it came out. no line, no waiting.

i'm sure the PS3 would have sold any amounts they made available, it IS xmas time. no one who wants a PS3 will be satisfied with just a Wii, they're not direct competition.

the Wii is essentially a gaming accessory like a Gameboy or DS. thats why Nintendo will always make money, the fringes of the market are way more people than the core. its why the gamecube failure didn't break them.
