Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
After this week, teams will have played 8 or 9 games. As enter the midway point next week; the hot seat is warm to hot for some teams.
Titans- Already fired their coach and it's unlikely the interim coach, Mccoy gets the permanent gig.
Cards- Gannon probably makes it the whole season but is gone in January. Only 2 wins so far.
Falcons- They have underperformed. Instead of challenging for the division, they are likely to have a losing season in Pennix's first year as a starter. Cousins is likely done. He did nothing while subbing. Raheem Morris likely gets the ax. Only 3 wins.
Panthers- Canales has them currently at .500 with a 4-4 record. They are likely to finish anywhere from 6-8 wins. Is that enough improvement for Tepper? You never know with him. Canales shouldn't feel safe.
Giants- Only at 2 wins but it looks like they found their franchise QB in Dart. Daboll unless he really piles on some wins in the 2nd half; is going to be fired at the end of the year.
Raiders- Carroll is 2-5. He only signed a three year deal. I guess he comes back but does Brady trust Carroll to develop the QB they are surely drafting next year? Brady will heavily influence this as to whether Carroll is one and done. They really whiffed on Geno Smith.
Browns- Stefanski has only 2 winning seasons in 6. He went to the playoffs in 2020 and 2023 and won coach of the year those years. The disaster at QB isn't his fault but it's time for him and the Browns to part ways. Currently, at 2-6. Gabriel likely isn't a starting QB. Does Sanders even play this year, since you know Stefanski really doesn't care for the guy. Browns also need to just take the Watson cap pain next year and cut him. Browns has their pick a Top 5 pick most likely and the Jags picks and can find their future QB in the next draft.
Jets- Glenn is 1-7. He finally won a game. I still think he will be one and done but Johnson may give him another year; especially since Jets can draft yet another QB.
Dolphins- Mcdaniel probably doesn't get fire in season but he's not coming back next year.
If those above teams have an opening, other than the Falcons; they aren't really that attractive of an opening and likely will do this again in 2-4 years.
These next 3 teams could have openings, depending on how they fare.
Steelers- Their expensive defense sucks. Rodgers is doing enough but the defense isn't good. They are likely to finish 9-8 and miss the playoffs. That would be 19 winning seasons for Tomlin but Rooney may have had enough decide it's time for a change in Steelerland.
Ravens- Currently 3-5 but they have a favorable schedule and likely will steal the division from the Steelers. For them, if they make playoffs; it's what they do in the playoffs. Harbaugh is in 18th season. Probably, making the playoffs after his poor start; saves his job. Though you never know, after what should be another playoff disappointment.
Bills- They face their playoff nemesis the Chiefs tomorrow. For the Bills, the expectations is a Superbowl appearance at least. Failure to do that, especially if they lose in the playoffs to the Chiefs again; Mcdermott might be dismissed.
There's one more team that should have an opening, Bengals. Zac Taylor will have the QB excuse but it's his poor defense that should get him fired. Mike Brown is too cheap to fire him so I don't expect the Bengals to have an opening.
