Re: Which unit is better, the offense or defense?
there have been games this year when the defense couldn't stop big plays, but (with the exeption of the Mara homecoming game) no one has exactly walked all over us... but when you think of it... why can we score 30+ points when we have to against tampa... then only score 9 against chicago... then 21 against the chargers etc...when its all we needed to win. We have hung in there with several teams that should easily beat a 5-6 team until it comes time to put them away.
In the last game, along with a couple of others, the offense could have put up at least another field goal and won the game before leaving the Defense all alone to play in the fourth quarter.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... on offense you have 3+ opportunities to do your job... on defense you won't succeed unless you do your job every down. If you miss one play you're done, and we've let our D get exposed in the fourth quarter by playing against the clock when there's over half a quarter left and leaving it up to them to finish. If the opposing team's offense does not see the ball when they're behind, they can never catch up. It's pretty simple football, but we seem to keep missing that point and relying on the fact that our D is good.. but no D is perfect every play.. and when you have explosive offenses that are desparate, you have to limit their opportunities with you own offense.
