Thanks for starting this. I also agree this should not devolve into a political show.

As for the virus, the longer the US can keep it from making a "beachhead" in the US, the better we are. Even though a vaccine is probably a year away, our doctors will learn a lot from the outbreaks in Italy and South Korea, where we will get honest data.

As more information is learned, more detailed understanding of how the transmission and incubation periods, we should give doctors and hospitals more understanding of how to identify it and enact proper precautions.

Overall, I think it could be a bad - right now it has around a 4% mortality rate, but mainly for elderly, and I think that most of those were inside of China. US, European, and SKorean medical care and infection control procedures are many steps above the Chinese equivalent.

When the Ebola scare happened I worked for a company that cleaned hospital privacy curtains. We had several immediate orders for isolation cleans. Since then Infection control in hospitals has become one of the single most important areas of Hospital administration. That bodes well for containing any outbreaks that may occur.
