You might be right. If he wants something like four years and $17M per, with a big chunk of it guaranteed, it no longer can be an Emotional Intelligence driven decision. It then has to be a long term business decision driven by what’s best for our cap.
The part BHA is missing - as usual - is our cap situation for the next two years. We are absolutely flushed with cap space. We almost have more than we can use. We could easily give Trent $35M guaranteed over the next two years, fully guaranteed, making him a Skin for the next two seasons, and it literally would not constrain our cap situation one iota.
If that’s not good enough for him then this was a money play for him all along. This is a good way to figure out where his heart is, right a lot of wrongs, and galvanize the locker room and the fans. If he wants a big contract like you suspect, then you move on to making the best business decision you can, which is probably a trade.
But you might as well find out first.
