We can use RG3 or Portis as examples - both players knew Snyder was in love with them and they took advantage of this by overrulling the coaches whenever they want to. Yet ironically, there are rumblings out there that Brady went over Belichick's head and went to Kraft about the whole Jimmy G. situation. Apparently Belichick wanted to keep Garoppolo and Brady wanted him gone. And well we all know what happened.
