What's the rush? As it stands now, he counts NOTHING to the cap. So we let him chill, and buy some FAs. Then we resign him with the others in place, saying, "Hey, we've only got so much cash here, but here's a nice little bonus and upgrade to tide you over." Then Danny-boy and his team of accountants fix the books, and we're off to mini-camp.

Also, given that Rosenhaus is getting a percentage of some of the other likely FAs, he'll calm down Portis.

(Of course, Protis may hold out, but Danny-boy knows how to show the love, so it shouldn't happen.)
